I have always driven petrol. Considering getting new fiesta in diesel. It's a bit dearer. What my questions are :
    1. Is it true that diesel is noisier ?

    2. Do diesel cars have a better trade in value than petrol ?

3 I've heard more things go wrong with diesel. Is this true or just myth?

4 is there any major advantage of 1 over the other. Taking out the milage per year factor.

    Thanks.

Diesels are a small bit noisier but modern ones and not that much more. They would generally have a higher trade in value. But what is your annual mileage roughly? And is it all town driving you do or is it motorway etc. the reason I ask is if you only do short town driving its not worth your while getting a diesel.

    1) Yes

    2) Yes

    3) Yes

    4) Depends how many miles per year you plan on doing otherwise get a cheaper petrol.

1 yes but not as much as you'd think

2 depends. Not always, if the cost to go petrol>diesel is too high then you may not see that money back on a small car.

3 there is a lot more scope for problems with diesels nowadays as they're a lot more complex

4 diesel tends to have more torque so will have better mid range accelleration

I'm guessing about 20000 km a year when Alls Said and done. I liked the idea of it holding its value better but I don't want a noisy car either. I test drive a diesel Audi today but I'm goin for the fiesta due to price I can get a titanium fiesta with options for 2500 less than bog standard a1 no extras.

I like the idea of better acceleration cause the pick up on petrol fiesta isn't great. Then again it's only 1.2 so it's to be expected I suppose. Not keen on the extra problems part though

so refreshing to see someone weighing up petrol v diesel sensibly before purchasing, and buying a spec'd up mid range car rather than a calcutta spec premium brand car.
