American Sat Nav

Hi. I'm currently using the Google Maps app as a Sat Nav in Ireland. I will be travelling around America later this year and I'm wondering if I use it over there, will it use Data? Is there an in built Sat Nav in the IPhone 5? Is there any Sat Nav app that doesn't use data and maybe the triangulation from the coverage? If I download Nav Free for America will it work with Data turned off?

    Thanks

I have used the Sygic app here and it is very good they have a U.S. version.

It costs about 20 euro for the maps but doesn't use data when running.

Brilliant. Looks just what I'm looking for! A Sat Nav with American maps is very hard to get in Ireland but it's probably only a matter if time before Sat Nav units are phased out for Smart Phones.

    Thanks Dougal

Yeah the updates are fairly regular for the Irish/UK version of the app. I used it on a couple of trips to the UK and found it to be as good as any Sat Nav unit that I have tried.

Be sure to be on wi-fi when downloading the maps as they can be sizeable files.
