I want to do arts in Maynooth, but in case I don't get the points I've heard the Liberal Arts course in Dundrum can get you inton Maynooth if you get a distinction. Can anyone tell me what the Liberal Arts course is like? :)

I study journalism in Rathmines, they do a liberal arts course that has a lot of students split into a couple of different classes.

If you get over 5 distinctions you can get into UCD Arts. A women from Maynooth came in for a general chat with students and said that the minimum they took last year was 7 distinctions and 1 merit.

I know it sounds hard, but once you put a bit of work in there's no reason why you shouldn't get the requirements. I currently take 13 modules and have 13 distinctions, once you manage your time well and do the work you'll be fine.

In terms of the college, it's a pretty good college with a good reputation. Everyone gets along and the standard of teaching is pretty good (bar one or two).

There's a lot of public transport nearby too. Give me a shout if you'd like to know anything else :)

Rathmines sounds good, I think I'll apply there now :) I'm just worried about not getting into Maynooth through this course, there's only like 25 places I don't really want to go anywhere else, so if I don't get in I'm kinda screwed for a year :/

You're just young so don't be worrying. Plus getting the distinctions you need in fetac is pretty easy next year if it comes to that.

I know in UCD Arts they accepted anyone who got the 5 distinctions. You might need to get distinctions in certain modules, but again, once you do a bit of work its not hard.

In maynooth they told us you needed to get 8 distinctions.

Rathmines is good because they add extra modules to give you a greater chance of getting 8 distinctions. I know in other fetac colleges they'll just give you 8 modules, so it's limiting your chance of getting 8. Where as in Rathmines this year, I'm doing 13 modules and that's excluding a language, which would have made it 14 modules. I've gotten 13 distinctions so far without working majorly hard. Just doing the work I've been given.

I really couldn't recommend Rathmines enough. You should apply online soon because they do interviews during the summer. If you're in Dundrum the 14 bus stops right outside the college :)

If you want to ask any questions give me a shout :)
