105 shifters are much nicer, and stronger... not a big fan of double tap either, but that's personal preference

I would have gone for the Apex when I was considering a Canyon. A little bit different. Looks cool also a bit lighter than the 105. But it depends what you like shifter wise. I know some people who love the Sram double tap and I know some people who don't like it at all.

The 105 comes with gp4000s while the apex has mavic tyres, why do canyon do these things?

    Hi.

I decided to put SRAM (mix of Red and Rival) on a recent frame purchase. I have used Shimano for many years. I really really regret making the shift, excuse the pun.

The choice of groupset is down to feel and comfort, and I simply hate how SRAM feels. The shifters feel extraordinarily brittle. I am not a fan of the double tap. Finally, the hoods are way too small for my small hands - there is no 'purchase' while on the hoods.

Thats said lots of people love SRAM. My advice is that if it was at all possible then you should try different bikes with different groupsets - maybe ask clubmates or friends. If you cant then choose what you are currently comfortable with.

I will shortly be selling a set of red shifters in order to go back to Shimano Ultegra.

I've been using SRAM Red and Force groupsets on several bikes for years, 4 years in one case. All through the winter, never do any maintenance on the shifters, works perfectly.

AFAIK SRAM Apex doesn't have the same internals as Force/Red. Apex uses some sort of lightweight soft cheese instead of metal. Some people don't find this a problem, others have been through several warranty replacements.

I think there are few things more mechanically perfect than a SRAM upshift, but YMMV.

I much prefer the ergo of the sram hoods and I think double tap is a much better system than shimano. I'd pick apex over 105 myself but it's all down to personal preference.

i think this comes down to the sram v shimano preference rather than 105/apex. i have been using apex for the last 2 years and no problems. my new purchase has red and while it does feel more crisp its much of a muchness.

i tried ultegra Di2 for 2 weeks on a loan bike from the LBS, it was nice but i think i am on the sram side of this argument.

if this is your first decent road bike and you have minimal experience with either, let the tyre preference make the choice.
