    it depends how well you know the person.
    My best friend got me a necklace,another got me a gorgeous Louise Kennedy candle holder.
    Personally if you know the person I think a present is nicer.

    A present is nicer to get. It also means that you can give some thing that looks expensive but may not be.
    Can you tell us some thing about the person you have to buy for and what you are looking to spend?
    We might be able to give you some suggestions
