Sick and tired of being refused a taxi ride home to ballsbridge

Long grey hair but well spoken but I " should just hail a taxi driving by if I want a lift THAT far "

I'm not sure, but do taxis have an obligation to take every passenger?

Well I'm sober and they are the first taxi in the rank so that would be a YES

He's in the wrong job.. He should just work off his phone if he wants to cherry pick fares.

No, a taxi can refuse a fare, you have the same right to walk past the first 7 cabs on the rank & take no 8 if you so wish

RJ I live near town in Dublin and use HAILO on the way in and love it. Also the drivers use it and praise it for the extra business. Not my fault if they are at the top of the rank and I need want a lift the rest of the way.

Tbh I'm walking now and couldn't care less but fur safety (given a previous attack) I'd rather a lift home

From talking to drivers in the past I understand this incorrect. They cannot refuse a fare because you are too short a journey in their opinion

When on a rank they cant refuse any reasonable fare (meaning as long as you are well behaved and not likely to dirty or stink out the taxi), also you can take the first, last or any taxi in between and they can't tell you that you must take the first taxi in line.

Op you should report the taxi to the regulator.

Many excuses can be given, the op could be considered a danger to the driver, he could be a soiler :) he could be abusive, none of these excuses may even come close to the truth, maybe he just doesn't like the op. But, if I was him I wouldn't lose a minutes sleep over it. Just pick whichever taxi on the rank he wishes & let that driver carry him home

I'm sick of being refused. I will but I hope this thread inspires others to do the same.

I've been in a number of taxis lately who have complained of other drivers doing this, others taking the piss out of the job and others abusing their position and its only right if people complain.

I was refused as my fair was less than €10 and its not the first time. I'm posting the taxi numbers here from now on. Other drivers are making a fair living and its not right others try and rip the public off.

    I'm not a danger to anyoneðŸ˜႒

I'm a well dressed guy and well presented and sober. I can't do much else

A certain taxi driver thinks otherwise ;)

Btw I'm not a driver and have no vested interest in taxis other than I have to use then.

They are well able to complain about other drivers, I'm well able to complain about them too and if the service is to improve others should do the same.

sitting on a culchie rank at the moment, god i'd love a trip for a fiver, op I agree with you, if there's a fare there he should take it, in the taxi game what comes around goes around,
He'd probably use the defense that he has being sitting in that rank for 2 hours and suggested that you get another taxi. (i don't agree with him, just playing devil's advocate)
There's a new app called driver check that lets you look up any rouge taxi's and let's you report them but unfortunately i'd rate the taxi regulators less use than the financial regulator in the 00's.

Anyway the thread is here for others to report taxis who won't pick up when they should.

*** this is nothing against taxis, only those who won't pick up when they should****

Tuborg I love to pay anyone who is genuine and does a good job. My fair is €10 normally give or take a euro.

I've been told every time I should be taken by the first can in the rank unless I'm drunk or a possible danger.

    Is that true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭tuborg_man

You can pick any car you want in the rank,. it's at your discretion what car you go for, (And when i'm using a taxi I do this. But mainly to sit in something a bit different or classy, you can never be a passanger in to many w124 mercs.)

The taxi driver can refuse you if the journey is over 30km, if they have food or drink with them, people acting up and being aggresive people who are likely to soil or damage the car,

For short journeys, go to the end of the rank. He won't be sitting for hours and probably won't object to the fare. Driver is at the end anyway so when he returns to the rank he's no worse off really

    Much ado about nothing.
Pick the next taxi in the rank if he didn't want to take you.

Some people have very little to be worrying about

You do understand sarcasm don't you????
Maybe it was this kind of attitude that got you your journey refused?

    I didn't have an attitude.

It was simply, as the driver said, the journey was too short.

It's happened many times and its a pain the arse. Given I've had enough of them tell me how hard it is and how little money they make it can't be that bad if they want to pick and choose fares.
