Does anyone know of any martial arts classes around the ballinteer/dundrum area? Used to do a bit of boxing but want to get into something new. Interested in all kinds of martial arts but it depends on what's close. Thanks.

If I lived closer to Dundrum I would be training with Chris Bowe and Gracie Bara Dublin in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu:

54 Main Street, Dundrum, Dublin 14

Above Ladbrookes, across from the Post Office.

    Head Instructor: Chris Bowe

    Contact: 0861081779

I'd highly recommend Gracie Barra BJJ Dublin on Dundrum Mainstreet above Ladbrokes

Thanks guys. So thats two for BJJ. Interesting. Also I'm aware there's a sticky for clubs but I was looking for a while and couldn't find much. So If I was to do BJJ I'd be interested in mixing It with a striking martial art too. I'm thinking taekwondo or kickboxing. Wanna get the legs involved. What about both? Any Ideas?

Get to your nearest Thai boxing club, or sanshou.
Or better yet find your nearest MMA club

Thanks for the replies guys. @Cowzerp, Sanshou seems like a good one thanks for that. As for Muay Thai and MMA, I'm not sure I wanna get smashed in the face with knees or cracked on top of the head with elbows ;)

as likely to get smashed in sanshou as mma or muay thai. youll be wearing pads in all for sparring anyway.

whats your means of travel and how far can you go, there are a few places 10 mins away by car and 10 mins by luas in the city

    Hi

Not to sure what your transport is like, but we teach Combat Silat - Kali in Firhouse Community Center. By car its next stop om M50 after Dundrum, just 2mins from M50. Or if you no car there is direct bus route from Dundrum and bus stop is 400m from venue. If you any questions feel free to ask me or PM. Good luck with your search.

If your close enough to the m50 and have a car i'd recomend chupasart thai boxing in ballymount.

In training you won't be sparring with Elbows in any class, unless the coaches are lunatics!

or Heavy Knee's to the head i would imagine..

Boxing is one that many people miss, but really one of the best striking arts bar none. Angels in Sandyford and Whitechurch boxing are both handy enough for Ballinteer. If you'd the time, would be a great compliment to BJJ or any grappling art. There's also sanshou and tui shou out in UCD, but you need to be a student, ex student, or member of the UCD gym AFAIK.

Advice you see regularly on here which is very sound is to try all the clubs in range, and go with the one you like most after doing a few sessions in each. It's often as much about who you're training with as what's been taught.

Ger in most mma clubs you won't get kneed and elbowed in the head till week 2.
So you have a full week to learn how to cope with it.

I've seen some of the students from this club and they have a high standard for karate. Near Dundrum.

I live across the road from Whitechurch Boxing Club. Highly recommended.

If boxing's not you're thing... how about Jiu-Jitsu?

The nearest club is where I train in Leopardstown.

There's also a new Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu opened above the Ladbrokes in Dundrum Village.
    Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu. https://www.facebook.com/graciebarradublinchrisbowe?fref=ts
