We use the grain in tubes with a little see through reservoir. Works well when we do it. We then forget till we see a furry friend and then set more. What do ye find most effective and how do ye administer or is it as required like I do?

The method I use is I get the blocks with the holes in them. I put them on a wire through a pipe. The best pipe is 3'' plastic centre's from silage wrap is ideal. The advantage of this method is the rat feed and then goes away and dies. If you keep it out all the time you catch the rat as he enters the yard and he goes to die outside the yard. The wire will keep the blocks slightly off the ground so the poisin remains palatable for a long time and you get to keep an eye on activity.

I used grain but found it got wet and became unpalatable after a short time. I have seen the refill pipes but wonder how durable they are. It is a bit of a pain felling the pipes but by using strong kitchen type rubber gloves with latex type underneath you are quite safe. Wash well at end and store seperately.

The last thing when you finish a bucket get a new bucket with a different poisin agent in it.

The grain in old shoots and middles from silage wraps, put down some every week more or less, sometimes change products.

Also have a few cats knocking around. still see an odd one,

We had been using storm with fair results..
Last time in store bought a new brand, its wheat and oats soaked in something that turns them orange..
Its serious stuff, were only talking about it yesterday... Haven't seen any rodents in weeks, some meal spilled in a corner of slatted shed and left it there, two weeks and nothing touched it so all must be clear.. I'll check tomorrow and stick up the name, was cheaper than storm too..

We changed from storm to rodex wax blocks with great results a few months ago. I think they had become immune to storm after eating for the last 10 years or maybe they just became cute enough not to take the storm. Either way, they took the rodex and they haven't taken it since, nor have I seen any rat/mice activity around the place.

We usually nail wax blocks to 2x1 lats

Relig it is important to change to a different active ingredient every year or so. Using the same ingredient ( Different brands may have same active ingredient) continualy will allow them to become immume. Also not haveing enough in place will do same. As will the habbit of some people to leave blocks loose which allows a rat to horde them or else to take blocks back to a nest.

I bought some Storm rat poison yesterday and while I was in the shop Storm had a booklet with advice on how to use it but more importantly they had a grid in it to draw out the farmyard and a log all done out to input dates and places used .
It is a handy yoke for record keeping on the farm that's supposed to be done . I'm not great at record keeping but thought it was easily filled out

It would be handy for that I thought alright, even though I'm not in Bord Bia I suppose it would be wanted for a cross compliance inspection

    Google "pestcontrol basf record book"
You can draw your bait plan and record what, how much and when you use.
