Kevin Smith jumped out of bed at 4.20 last night to start writing Clerks 3, says it's gonna be the best movie he has written. I'm on my phone so can't link but it's easy enough to find online.

I love pretty much everything he has done bar cop out and jersey girl to a lesser extent, this news has me very excited :)

Clerks 2 was a bit crap imo, wouldn't hold out much hope for 3 being any better.

Clerks II was mostly good but had too much lame broad comedy and the dance scene didn't work at all. I hope it just goes back to the formula of 2 friends BSing about pop culture and their own lives for 90 minutes, while dealing with the odd customer.

Kevin Smith rolled his fat ass out of bed more like. He hasn't made a decent film in years so he desperately decides to go back to the movie he made when he was young and raw instead of garbage like the terrible Red State. I ain't holding out for anything decent.

Clerks II was a pile of bollocks, in fairness. A complete misjudgement of what people actually liked about the first film.

I find Kevin Smith annoying now. He is thin skinned and repetitive.

    He peaked with Chasing Amy.

Agreed. It's probably his one movie that continues to stand up over the years.

I used to love Smith's View Askew films but Dogma, while undoubtedly flawed, was probably the last film set in the View Askew world that I'd call good: "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" was mediocre at best (getting by on cameos and in-jokes) and Clerks 2 left me underwhelmed - despite the addition of the talented Rosario Dawson to the cast.

I suspect that Smith has run out of great story ideas. I've had a "Jersey Girl" DVD sitting on my shelf unwatched for well over a year but haven't yet felt sufficiently motivated/interested to get around to watching it. I certainly won't be holding my breath for Clerks III.

Having said that, I still haven't completely given up on Kevin Smith as I enjoyed "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and went to see "Red State" in the cinema. I thought it was quite a solid film though let down by the final third (from when the shooting started).

Does he wear anything other than that XXXL blue & orange hockey jersey?

I thought zack and Miri was one if the worst films I've ever seen. I enjoyed jersey girl immensely though and agree chasing Amy was his career high

Weird that Zack and Miri was far better received than Jersey Girl in general.

Haven't watched Cop Out because it's supposed to be muck but of the ones he's written, Clerks and Clerks 2, Dogma and Chasing Amy would all get really postive reviews from me. Mallrats, Zach and Miri and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back were fun films that are very watchable. Red State was interesting and I thought Jersey Girl was OK.

The people saying he hasn't made a good film in years is a bit silly as he's made 5 films in the last 10 years and with the exception of Cop Out which I haven't seen and wouldn't judge due to the fact it's well publicised that Smith found Willis very difficult to direct I wouldn't call any of the other 4 bad films.

Clerks 2 while different than Clerks 1 was more a coming of age film that Clerks which was just 2 guys goofing around in an autobiographical take on Smith's life at the time. He's said I think that Clerks is a movie about him in his 20s, 2 a movie about him in his 30s and 3 he wants to be about his 40s.

Sure it might not be made anyway due to Jeff Anderson being unwilling to go back to it.

Dogma's not as clever as Smith thinks it is IMO, I don't think it's aged all that well.

Jay and Silent Bob is boss though, it's just a 90 minute live action cartoon. And I really liked the first half of Red State, I thought it was excellent, the second half was abysmal though.

Clerks 2 was ok I guess, nothing spectacular. I'll watch Clerks 3 but I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

I liked the horror film he did to be fair. It was entertaining.

It's the man I don't really like anymore. He's a bit of a winey bitch who cannot stand criticism.

I dunno if there is any real need for a third film. I actually rewatched Clerks II recently enough and found it much funnier this time around. In saying that, I am one if those people who always focuses on positives in films, no mattr how bad they are. I loved JaSBSB BECAUSE of all the cameos, ha ha ha!

I'll agree with a few people though, Kevin Smith seems to have become a bit precious and well, a bit shít. His little spat with Howard Stern a while back was a bit sad. Once upon a time I watched everything he did, even the live stuff but haven't even seen Jersey Girl or Cop Out. I'll watch Clerks 3 though as I know and like the characters but I still don't think they needed a third film.

I liked Clerks II. Not a patch on some of his early stuff, but a decent little comedy in its own right. I'll check out part 3, but I'm not gonna set my expectations very high.

I thought Clerks 2 was utterly generic.

I would consider that high praise for Clerks 2...
