It'll be a blow for the airport, they came in around 2006 and it seemed no one knew who they were at the time but they built up a steady service on the back of Eastern European immigrants going home to visit loved ones and then fly back here again.

Wizz are pulling all their routes. Will be gone compleatly by May. Brought it on themselves to a certain extent, made a couple of rash comments about FR when they (FR) started to take over Malev's routes at Budapest. FR of course rose to the challenge and now Cork will be the loser because of it. I can't see FR staying on unless they are given a discount by the airport. Jet2 with it's route to Newcastle will be the only airline besides EI and FR flying regular services out of Cork.

Wouldn't nessecarily agree that it's wizzairs fault Ryanair have a history of flooding a certain market to drive an alternative airline out then reducing their flights and upping fares. For example, when they competed with "GO" out of Dublin to Scotland, then with "British Airways" out of shannon to Manchester, aswell as "Hapag Lloyd Express" out of shannon to Germany.

In other words, another airline builds up the route, they come in, undercut the fares, the other airline pulls out, Ryanair have a monopoly on a built up route.

It's a bad day for Cork airport indeed.

Don't forget Easy Jet as well. Drove them out fairly quickly too.

Bad day indeed....less choice and higher prices. Sad to hear WizzAir are going down the tube altogether though.

File with Wizz air from wroclaw to Cork last summer, I found them far superior to Ryanair, the 32kg allowance for checked was brilliant! Sad day for cork airport it's a shame they are leaving the route.

So Cork will only have Ryanair, Aer Lingus and....? Jet2? How long before O'leary runs flights to Newcastle and drives them out?

I think WizzAir sealed their own fate when they started charging for carry-on luggage. Passengers would always choose Ryanair then so they were unable to compete. They have never actually turned a profit once I believe in all their years of operation. It is bad news for consumers because Ryanair will charge through the nose and eventually withdraw services. I wonder if EI would compete to a few Eastern Europeans routes? They used to fly to Prague and other places from Cork until a few years ago.

I dont think it has anything to do with charge for carry on,it proved popular with poles and people who dont like flying ryr,a friend of mine had 6 or 7 flights booked with them for the coming months
