Cycling to an event and then going on the lash, getting train back next day. What is the bike storage like on Intercity trains? I booked a seat and a bike onto a train. Would like to ride my good bike down, but considering riding winter bike to avoid pain. Anyone done this?

Bike storage is excellent if a little short on supply. I'd say get there early to make sure you get one of the storage compartments.

On average I'd say theres about two carriages per train that have the bike storage on them.

I wouldn't have bothered paying for it though.

I have taken my good bike to Galway for the weekend on the train. No issues. The storage is fine. I have heard of someone damaging their rear derailleur on the bottom of the bike storage cage. It got knocked and bent by the side to side movement of the train. To prevent this I store mine front wheel down and rear wheel up.

Get to the train early so some idiot doesn't put every suitcase possible in the bike spaces. Also watch out for said idiot resting their case on your bike!

I did get asked when boarding in Galway for my ticket for the bike.
    I had a return ticket for the bike ( €16 ).
    You do get asked sometimes.
