Hi guys, I am currently almost two thirds through a Corporate Law degree, and have to do a one year LLB to obtain a full law degree. I am also interested in taking the New York bar, I was just wondering if it would be possible to do both in the same year? Because I am only required to take two or three subjects for the LLB I think.

Probably not as you need a certain degree to be eligible to sit the NY Bar and I think you need an LLB.

I did the corp law as well. You need to have your degree already (Ll.B.) as that is essentially to doing the exams. If you are over there you could do the ethics exam. Most US students have that done by the time they are in second year.
There are exams in February and July so you would probably be better off dedicating a few months to study and doing the exams in the February.

Cheers guys. Just one more question, would it be possible to go straight to an LLM from final year? Many seem to think the LLB is a waste of time.

From final corp? Yeah it would be. but check with who ever you want to qualify with first. the NY bar won't accept you unless you have the llb. i went straight to a masters from the llb as do most.

So for a future in the legal side of things the llb is fairly necessary is it?

    To be honest yes.
