Life Changer?

    Hello again pi!

I think the world is telling me to change my life but Im too doubtful to do it. Basically my boyfriend is leaving to go travelling in May- I am staying due to work commitments. I am a marketing grad whos doing a turn in sales, but in last week I have learnt that my job role is changing to a hugely adminstrative and analytical role. One I know in my heart of hearts that I am not suited for nor it for me.

So what do I do, do I , even in these times where I am told that Im so lucky to have a job etc, leave it and try for something new? I know my new role would leave me miserable, and will not aid in my CV in the direction I want to persue ( which was my orignal objective) but its hard to leave the security of a steady and decent income.

Would love to hear from anyone else who was in a similar situaition or just someone elses point of view.

Now that things have changed would you consider going travelling?

If not, then I'd advise you to take the job on offer and use the time wisely to jobhunt for a role you really want in the direction you wish to head. There's no point leaving a secure job on a whim, far easier to find a new job while already in one in my opinion...

I'd give the job a shot if I were you, no sense in writing it off even before you try it. Even if you only do a couple of months of it it will be another bunch of skill sets you can put on your CV.

That doesn't mean you can't still set about changing your life at this time. It's always easier to find a new job when you're still in one. Paint a mental picture of where it is you want to be & what it is you want to be doing & work on bridging the gap.. are there any other short term educational courses you could do in the meantime that will help you get there, any connections you could exploit with regards to opportunities elsewhere. Put your CV about on the quiet from the stable platform of your current position would be my two cents on it.

I would start to look for another job but make sure that you do not say this to anyone where you work. Your boss does not need to know your plans.
Even if you don't get a new job before your role changes use the new role to broaden your skills.

Is there are professional organisation that you could join? A lot of professional groups run jobs courses or have various social events to meet people working in your area. Some professional organisations can give career advice or recruit for new jobs in your area.
Also put up your details on Linkedin and put that you want to hear from people for some thing like - career opportunities, getting back in touch.
I would not leave your job until you have another job.
    Good Luck
