in the past we've waited until annual herd test as vet needs to sign off on it.
The dept are only too quick and happy to send out warning letters these days. Talk to your vets i'd say they know the way the system works.

Post card to your vet they will confirm sex and forward to DVO, you will receive new card in post. Seems they trust a vet and not a farmer, must be because they are professionals!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've found that it's always better to talk to the officer who handles your file most of the time (any officer can work on your file) and get to know them. If you ask for them by name and deal with them politely they get to know you and if you're not chancing you're arm they'll generally talk you through the procedures. We've had two different ladies dealing with our files over the past 15 years and in general they couldn't be more helpful. The woman who handles our files at the moment is job sharing and TBH if I ring and she's not working I'll ask when she's back on and ring then. If you go on the phone to the dept with a hostile attitude and expecting/looking for trouble you'll get plenty. The people in the Dept offices are not inspectors and don't have an axe to grind or an agenda other than to ensure the records are kept straight.

The people doing SFP inspections are on a different page altogether, and if what some of the stories are saying is true they are in as much fear of E.U. audits as we are of their inspections.
