    Is there a

    i) minimum age
ii) minimum amount of years driving experience

to be taken into account before a person can get commercial insurance on a vehicle?

    Thank-you.

I got insured on a commerical vehicle from the age of 17 on a provisional with no experience. But that was as a named driver to get a commerical policy in your own name I'd imagine you would have to be of a sorted age with a certain amount experience.

Thats great news. Would you mind me asking how many years ago that was? And has the law changed at all since then?

It would totally be at the discretion of the insurance company,

Perhaps private insurance on the commercial vehicle would be an easier way to go?

Depending on the planned usage of the vehicle - You can tax it commercially, and insure it privately.

I dont think any brokers deal with commercials.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that would insure a 21 year old (test tomorrow so hoping he passes) on a 2007 2.5 pickup? Would preferably be kept as a name driver.

I called about commercial insurance a few months ago. I was told they needed a reasonable reason to give commercial insurance. That I couldn't just be a bookkeeper bringing the kids to school.

I told them im an engineer and carry tools (true) and they were happy with that.

Well that shouldnt be an issue. Currently we pay a different company to do our deliveries for us. Thats costing us over 4K a year. A cheap pickup would save us a fortune and it would give us the freedom to deliver whenever we want and not be always trying to book time slots that suit them, suit us, and suit the customer.
