Buying a house 1km from the entrance to the estate

I am currently considering a house which meets our needs quite well in every respect but is 950 meters walk or drive from the entrance to the estate. I have checked and there are no pedestrian exits or shortcuts

Having never lived in a housing estate I don't know if this is something I should care about? Has anyone had any experience in this sort of location?

It depends, are their shops in the estate? If not, how far from the estate is the local? It'd be a pain in the hoop to have to walk 1km + (whatever to local) to get a liter of milk for the tea.

Hi I live approx 1km from entrance to my estate (10min walk) I dont mind most of the time its nice not to have all the estate traffic going past my place
Only down side would be if you dislike walking, me I love walking so suits me

It would be a pain living that far out. Im sure if you look around you might find something a tad closer :)

We have been looking for a while now and annoyingly the house is a good one and we are eager to move! Don't mind walking so it might be ok :-(

I'm the opposite I live close to the entrance and I hate it because of all the traffic passing im terrified when the kids are out the front ..so from that angle I would prefer to be tucked away in at the back

Well thats up to you. But dont forget the kids either. If its only a short-term move then fair enough. But as you said, theres no footpath to the estate. Will you be able to convince your kids not to walk on the road to the estate to all the other kids? If you plan on living there long term I would definitely put some serious thought into it if I were you.

I think the op meant there were no specific pedestrial exits, holes in the wall they can exit through that cars couldnt so to speak rather than there being no paths.

Yeah, it's a safe estate anyway it seems, plenty of pedestrian access but only tge one entrance.

Does anyone know if value is generally affected by this for identical properties?

I would wonder what access is like at rush hour.

What is access like to where you want to go at the time you want to go there?

Never having lived in an estate i have no idea what traffic is like inside them, access out of the estate is good with a left turn on to the main road in the commuting direction. I might try a commuting dry run but its a long way from my current work

well in dublin, some estates, some exits, lanes ,shortcuts are being sealed, closed by council ,due to anti social behavior,so you have further to walk to exit,or enter, the estate ,
Estate maybe designed that way, cos for security reasons,
or else to separate estate from a main road.
i,d prefer not to live near estate entrance ,as its noisier, eg more traffic coming in.
you might say estate with one entrance is more secure.
if in the country, its not so important,
eg theres no local bus services ,apart from a school bus.
people that can afford to buy a house, will probably have a car anyway.

I won't get into it, but this isn't necessarily the case.
