for filing an illegal lien in New Jersey against a property? In other word, I have a coworker that owns a freestanding home in a 55 and over. They have monthly maintenance. They missed a few months when they were hospitalized, but caught up when they came home. They property management company never credited the account which was at zero and a few months later the lawyer they have filed a lien. When they realized that they were wrong they quietly removed it but is still charging the owner legal fees for their mistake! Isn't it a felony in some states to file a lien when no monies are due? I want some scare tactics when speaking to them because hiring a lawyer costs more than what is owed!!! Catch 22!!! I can't believe this injustice can be done to someone elderly. They get so upset. Any help? Thanks

As this is an Irish forum, I doubt you'll be able to get help here. In any case, we are not allowed to give legal advice. You'd be better off speaking to a lawyer expert in conveyancing back in the US.
