One of the conspicuous absences in the Hamilton library is a classic in its field. Strangely, the library don't even have a copy in stacks.

So, firstly, is it possible in principle to request that the library gets a copy, secondly, in practice, is it likely they'll actually get a copy, what with budget cutbacks, etc?

Certainly it was normal to make that request of local libraries in the good days. They might or might not comply. I think at times the trick was for them to borrow the book from another library.
I don't know about now, but why not ask?

I know that Zaitsev requested more of the group theory books to be bought for lending. So I'm not entirely sure about students requesting but if they can't then you might be able to get the lecturer to.
