A little challenge here, can anyone make a XXIII up of current players who were IQ through decent or residency but chose to represent another country (or if only IQ through residency to leave)

I'll start off by contributing a few names, can anyone fill out the 23

    1 Alex Corisiero
    3 Paul Doran-Jones
    7 Ray Ofisa
    10 Shane Geraghty
    14 Vasily Artemyev
    17 Paddy Ryan
    18 Kieran Brookes
    22 Jeremy Manning

He was never actually IQ it was ruled that going to boarding school in Ireland and returning to Russia outside of term time to go back to his parents didn't count as residency

does Ruaidhri Murphy fit this list (yet)?

    Glasgow winger Tommy Seymour

    Kyran Bracken at Scrumhalf

although he was actually irish as oppossed to IQ

    EDIT: Ah current players..oh well

    11. Matt Banahan
    13. Pat McCabe

    17. Dave Ryan - has declared himself for USA and Italy but technically still IQ.

The Matt Banahan thing is mental; people born in the Channel Islands can declare for any of the four Home Unions.

    5

    10 Jeremy Manning
    11 Tommy Seymour
    12 Shane Geraghty
    13 Pat McCabe
    14 Vasily Artemyev
    15

EDIT: I think Owen Farrell might have some irish blood? If he does we could put Manning at 15 and him at 10. There are probably tons of English players who are technically IQ in some way but we never hear about it because they're either not good enough or too good

We can put Banahan in at 11 and shift Seymour to 15 if we need to

Isn't there an Irish lad playing out in Indonesia or somewhere really obscure like that (in rugby terms). Think there was a documentary on him playing world cup qualifiers. Seem to recall he was a 15.

I could do a few retired lads, like Keiran Bracken, the English scrum half, but haven't a rashers of any current ones, other than Artemyev who was already mentioned.

I think it's fair to say we're winning when it comes to the granny rule anyway...

I thought the rule was have chosen to represent another country? None of those lads are internationals, I hope!

...people born in the Channel Islands can declare for any of the four Home Unions.

Not just that, anyone with a parent or grandparent born there (or in the Isle of Man) can declare the same. One of Budge Pountney's grannies came from the IOM, hence he was qualified for Scotland.

The reasoning is that they are UK citizens, but since they don't have their own international teams to play for, they can declare for any of the 4 constituent nations of the UK that do have teams. And yes, Northern Ireland is included in that!

Kazakhstan, Luke O'Callaghan back in 2007, is he still playing?

Seymour is I think, he featured in one of the AIs.

Anyway the idea the thread was IQ players who are no longer IQ, be that through representing another country or if they were IQ through residency by leaving since they can no longer be selected if they leave before being capped

If you mean Mathew Tait, yes he is still playing. He was out for a good 15 months through injury but returned recently for Leicester.

I believe that the american background was Irish American. I can't find a link with details of him being IQ but it is stated that he is IQ

I seem to remember Drew Mitchell was Irish Qualified. The only reference to it that I can find though is a previous post on Boards which is probably where I heard it first so not sure how accurate it is. If so it would be the grandparent rule.

AFAIK he was traveling with the Russian champions Enisei STM last year when they played Connacht and Munster and was acting as a translator or something like that. No idea if he is actually playing though.

Matthew Tait? If that's who you mean then I didn't know that. He was a smashing young player but between injuries and getting shifted around the backline he has never lived up to his potential. I always thought he would have been a brillant 13, albeit not necessarily defensively, he suffered from the Johnson regime.

Could Shaun Payne not be considered for this?

    Or is that different?
