Had a cow calf 2day with twin bull calves. Shes a simmental cow and always has plenty of milk but she has very little. Her time isnt up till next tuesday so would the fact that her time isnt up be the reason she has damn all milk. I have her on dairy nuts aswell

Could be keitosis, is there a strong smell off her breath, has she last any condition in the last couple of days.

    hi John,

you were lucky both calves made it, nothing like a small garden of grass and plenty of dairy nuts to bring the milk to her, it'll come to her but you may want to get few bottles of milk from another cow to keep the calves strong and healthy in the mean time

    Hi John,

I happened to have the same issue today, albeit with a ewe. But I said I better check online as to how soon you could give powdered milk (its 5 days for a lamb)

But it seems for Maverick its 4 days. See here : http://www.goldenmaverick.ie/products/triple-a-golden-maverick-regular

(I think it says 4 days anyways)

If I remember right, lambs are supposed to get colostrum for the first day or two. I think it's usefulness to the lamb diminishes quite a bit after the first twelve hours, or rather the lambs ability to use it as good as it might earlier. Then go on with powdered milk replace from day 2 or three onward.

Haven't got the bucket in front of me at the moment, can't see to find the brand I use online.

It was oxytocin surely. one of the twins dropped dead this evening. dont know if he got a kick from another cow or what. you try ur best but at least its outside the house. If u have livestock u will have dead stock still gutted though
