Hope this is ok to post in here.

I have a query about some income tax that I may owe.

The situation goes like this, after college I was taken on by a studio to work, but for payment I had to invoice them my sum for the month, and then got paid by cheque.

Last year when I left the company, I went to the tax office to enquire about taxes that I may owe, I have worked out the sum and although it is low I am sure I may owe some sort of money in someway.

My over all income from April 2011-March 2012 was €15,500, I was sent a letter about paying tax last September and then got a reminder notice today about it, saying that there might be interest charged to the amount that I owe.

I have a friend who can help with accounts etc so I will ask him about it, but I am wondering if anyone here had experienced the same thing as me, and if so what was their experiences etc.

    Many thanks.

    Hi

You need to complete a tax return (Form11) for the tax years 2011 and 2012.

The tax return for 2011 should have been submitted before 31 October 2012 and the tax return for 2012 needs to be submitted before 31 October 2013. Interest may be due on the late return for 2011. This interest will run from 31 October 2012, the date that the return was due to be submitted.

If both tax returns are not submitted before 31 October 2013 then a late filing surcharge will also arise.

    Best Regards

    Thanks very much for that.

I have a meeting on Tuesday with an accountant. I have done some research and I think I owe for for the USC than the tax, but I will know more on Tuesday.

    Thanks again.
