I have been told to take the available 10/1 about Rule The World. My cousin does not back horses, he works in a bank in London, but he went to college with the guy that bred Rule The World, and he reckons he won't be beat.

I personally fancied The New One, so I am now confused.

Don't know but Russell didn't sound too confident of beating Pont Alexandre and everybody is raving about him. Have 3/1 on PA so happy enough.

Aye, you got value there. I wouldn't back Ponty at 7/4 though, I have a few quid on The New One at 9/2 and am contemplating steaming into Rule The World each way, just need to review my options. This same lad gave me Dunguib for the bumper a few years back, this is the only tip from him since.

Ye in fairness the horse has done nothing wrong and is value e/w at 10/1 although getting cut into 8/1 into most places move quick for the 10/1.

Pont Alexandre is the NAP of the week behind Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig.

He shouldnt be running was the word at that preview last night Segal was saying if it was any other horse it would be pulled out, they'll probably ruin it running it if its got a virus.

I was hoping Defy Logic would be allowed take his place but not to be, I'd taken some 25/1 NRNB so no harm done at least

While I respect Pont Alexandre I actually think he's too short. He's being compared to Mikael D in 2009 but while their profiles are not dissimilar I was able to back Mikael at 11/2 the Sunday before the festival while I'm being asked to take 7/4 PA.

Looking at his form he was going to dispose of Don Cossack first time up, however that horse has either been disappointing this year or was over rated as a bumper horse (not sure which tbh). Both Annie Power and Defy Logic were almost as impressive in beating him at Navan. He was visually impressive again at Leopardstown but Sizing Gold is any price for the novice hurdles at Cheltenham and Byrnes horse surely sin;t top class and would surely prefer better ground

I'm not knocking PA, I'm questioning his price. I think connections are as much to do with it as his form.

Think he's (RTW) a great bet and is carrying half my Cheltenham bank! The horse I'm most looking forward to see in the whole festival.

Crazy price on PA, I'm backing Minsk. Crazy prices for a horse that was fav for Triumph Hurdle last year.

I don't really like Rule The World at all. What's he done? Beat an average Minsk, a sick Champagne Fever, a Joncol who hasn't been the same for years and been beaten by a very game Our Vinnie. Couldn't have him at any price.

I think the only crazy thing there is the fact Minsk was favourite for the Triumph off the back of one run in a juvenile hurdle. Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

He was favourite before he ever jumped a hurdle in public!

The stable had him backed for the supreme this year :D would get lapped.

They should send him back on the flat with oxx or else get him handicapped to win a race over hurdles because he wont be winning any graded races.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Minsk is an absolute hound, wouldn't back him with stolen money over hurdles.

Will keep an eye on the exchanges tomorrow as the new one is doing his final piece of work and has a ''tracheal wash'' which I presume will be checking if he has that virus in the yard, they'd be mad to run if he does but I find it hard to believe 3 other horses got it and he hasnt.

You are a bit harsh. He hasn't done anything wrong. Trainer is impressed with him. I hope to be cheering him up the hill next Wednesday.

What did Frankel beat his entire career? Not much.
RTW has had 4 runs for crying out loud, are you saying the horse can't improve further after only 4 runs? Not to mention that beating of Minsk was 16 lengths eased down

Of course he can improve but I just don't see how he warrants to be as short as 8s. His form has no substance at all. If he wins I'll hold my hands up but I think the hype surrounding him in the previews nights is built purely on potential.

If you are having half your Cheltenham bank im running in a novice hurdle I really think you should reassess your betting strategies!!

Had him flagged up here that he was 1 of the best lays I'd ever seen he was 5/1 for crying out loud!!

Probably my only winning selection since here in a few years.. Haha

I have puffin billy backed here for a long time. Tbh at this stage I find it hard to seperate PA with jonjos horse with the new one a very close 3rd!

Wouldn't pay much attention to Davy when it comes to the British horses...he's never a fan of the Brits, likes to keep it country!! :P

Who would your selection be in this race then ?

I think this along with the ryanair is one of the hardest races of the festival to call, pont alexandre may be a superstar but if denman couldnt win this race then at 7/4 i'm willing to take him on. Cant have taquin de seuil due to the stat re challow winners, barry geraghty is sweet on puffin billy and chatterbox so i might dutch the 2 of them

I will def be taking on PA here.
All his winning on heavy ground and not all these French horses will go on the better ground, regardless if the trainer and jockey think so - it doesnt always turn out that way.

Not the place for this but the answer is EVERYTHING

23 individual group one winners of 52 group 1 races.

That's the worst comment I've ever read

This is the best race of the week. It's really hard to knock any of the market leaders, and then you can even add in Puffin Billy and Chatterbox and Sizing Gold could outrun his price.

PA shouldn't be backed at this stage. There was ample opportunity to back him at 11/4 or 5/2 NRNB. That's gone now and it's simply too late for others to logically jump on the bandwagon. I suspect the New One might be a non-runner. Will have to wait and see though. The ground is huge for Taquin de Seuil, so will have to wait until the day to see if he's a player. At this stage, i'd be on Chatterbox at the prices if I wasn't invested in PA

News from The New One's gallop this morning:

Good gallop by The New One

Richard "Sparky" Bevis (‏@RICHARDBEVIS), head lad to Nigel Twiston-Davies, just tweeted: "To put minds at rest, The New One worked very well today an is firmly on target for the Neptune." (7 mins ago)

Let's bear in mind the standard of Group 1 horse racing has been pants for several years now if you take Frankel out of it. Farhh finished 2nd to him twice, and what Group race has Farhh won exactly?

This isn't the place for it but Farhh is very lightly raced, would have been close to So You Think if he hadn't been ridden so poor and was beaten about a nose in France by Moonlight Cloud.

You're conveniently forgetting his destruction of a 130 horse in Excelebration about 6 times and Canford Cliffs could barely stand after he raced him.

    Back on topic please

If your really trying to discredit Frankel you don't belong on a horse racing forum.

Sorry off topic I know. Ponty bet of the week on at 3's :)
