Hi, I've been offered an accounts assistant/reception role in Limerick for a small trade company and would like some advice as to what the average salary would be?
I've been told by agencies that since this is my first perm job in Ireland (1 other temp job) this will effect my rate?
The owner has given me a figure but am unsure of it..

    Thanks :)

Accounts admin/reception salaries can vary from €18,000 to €35,000. A lot depends, as the recruiters have said, on your previous experience, the level of responsibility in the role, the size of the organisation etc. For example, someone such as you working for a relatively small company may spend a lot of their day doing accounts receiveable/payable, a bit of general admin (filing/typing/doing up quotes or reports etc) and answering phones, meet and greet at front desk. A role such as this would not get the higher levels of salary. To get the higher levels you would need to be taking on a lot more responsibilties and administering for large accounts or in large volumes.

I would say realistically the role you describe (although I am only basing this on very sketchy information from you) would be in the €18,000 - €26,000 range, and a lot will depend on the turnover and size of the company and what their budget allows them to pay. If they are a quite small company not making much profit, you will probably be paid towards the lower end of the scale.

Ugh, I'd written a reply but lost it when timed out! :/

Thanks for your response and sorry for the sketchy-ness. It's basically running the office behind the elec company - accounts, purchase/sales orders, admin, reception, payroll etc etc.
I understand what the consultants are saying re experience but the 'in Ireland' bit puzzled me as I've done the same role in Brisbane, London and Glasgow. Just seemed a little odd the emphasis they put on it.
Anyway, seems an agreement is almost in place, for now..! Thanks again :)

yes, Irish employers are VERY keen on 'in Ireland' experience. My husband was in a similar situation to you. He had many years of valid work experience in his own country, but couldn't even get an interview for similar roles here. One recruitment agent told him, as you were told, it was because he had no experience or references in Ireland.

So he got a 3 mth stint as a labourer and worked weekends in a hotel. With only 3 mths work experience in Ireland he started to get interviews. Despite the fact that the Irish work exp had NOTHING at all to do with his chosen field!

Irish employers seem to be a bit paranoid about taking on someone who has no previous experience of working in Ireland and particularly of someone who does not have references gained in Ireland. Silly, but just the way it is.

Ah, well I guess that's good to hear that it happens across the board and it's not agencies up to mischief and trickery.

Kinda strange, but I can somewhat understand why.

I have a temp job under my belt and now a perm one! Hopefully that'll be plenty for my next job ;)
