    Hi All

    Quick question for ye :)

If you get paid a share dividend is this taxed at source.

Or is it similar to Capital Gains Tax where you declare it at the end of the year?

    Thanks

Hi i am new to this stuff but i did learn in the past few days that when you are paid your dividend the company pays 20% of the dividend to Revenue - this is called the Dividend Withholding Tax. If you pay tax at the higher rate of 41% then you must pay the remaining 21% of the dividend yourself at year end. If you are paying tax at the standard rate of 20% then you are home and hosed! The good wife has about 12 years of dividend tax to pay on 800 kerry shares at the higher rate- or so we realised this week. the joys!!!:) hope this helps

I aslo have a question regarding the taxing of dividends. I received a very same dividend from shares which are based in Germany, and capital gains was paid on the dividend in Germany at their rate of 25%. So do I need to also pay tax on that dividend here ??

trying to do tax return on PAYE online. I have irish shares for which I got dividend taxed at source. this is I understand at 20%. I pay tax at 41%. where do I input the dividend amount on the PAYE screens. I can see US and UK and Canadian dividend lines but not an Irish one. Am I blind or is it called something else? tks

I think it's simply called Dividends and Distributions, or maybe just Dividends.

thanks. I saw that line but wasn't sure it was taking into account `taxed at source`. tried to ring revenue but after 10 minutes of hold music and "we'lll be with you shortly" I had to hang up.

good luck with that. I enquired about dividends from etfs, talk to 6 different people, and not one had a clue.
