    We don't know.

    Ask around :)

Well thanks for the answer. But I have been flat out calling around all morning and nobody will even entertain the idea until she has at least 3 years NCB.... I thought maybe someone on here might know a girl in a similar situation and could tell me who they used.

If money isnt an issue then anyone should insure you!

Only way to get an answer to your question is to get out the phone book and ring around. With no real NCB youll be paying quite a bit for that car I suspect, but the only way to find out is to put the work in and ask every insurer/broker you can find.

If you are really struggling then try the likes of XS Direct. The cover wont be worth a toss other than to make you legal, but it would allow her to build up a NCB.

The car is going to cause a young driver with no experience problems though when it comes to insurance. Would you not be better trying to insure something a bit more realistic until she builds up some experience?

Insurance has been gender equalised. You would be better off asking a 21 year old boy.

Why didn't you ring a broker?

You bought a new car without checking insurance?

No its not my car. I wish :D Its the brothers and hes trying to get the GF on it.

Well if he has his own policy, he would just add her to his policy. If he's letting her drive the car full time, then tell him to check the terms & conditions as normally she cannot take a policy out on something she does not own.

Oh and as stated already, with 1 year named driving exp only, it will be tough to find anyone. She needs some real NCB under her belt for the likes of that car.

If he is trying to add her as a named driver then he might have problems; a lot of companies will have restrictions on who can be added as a named driver, especially on a car like that. Has she a full license?

BMW 3 series diesel? Not exactly an M3 is it? What is wrong with the insurance companies?

Big engined car + young inexperienced driver = big flashing red warning lights!

It might not be logical, but welcome to the wonderful world of motor insurance in Ireland...

    Exactly!

Since when has a 3 series diesel (318 or 320) become a particularly desirable car. Nice car but its hardly a performance car. Boring sales ex. car IMO.

Try XS direct if you cant get a quote anywhere else.

Op ring FBD they will insure her no problem. When I was 17 male on a provisional my parents bought a new octavia and they insured me no problem on it. The car was brand new I know it's no BMW but that shouldn't make a major difference it will just add abit to the cost. All things considered it didn't even cost too much. They were the only insurance company that would insure me at the time on that car.

I was curious so I checked 123.ie, it'll be over 6 grand, did you try many insurers op?

The only person that didnt refuse was from XS (as advised on this thread). That came in at 2.8K. One or two more companies left to call, but I dont XS will be beaten.

Can I just ask. I seem to remember a mate years ago got cheap insurance by agreeing to follow a load of rules. Must not drive after 10 at night. Can not drive more than 10K miles a year etc..?? Does such a thing still exist?

Yearly mileage is still a question that is asked. The ten at night thing is weird though. Maybe they're trying to stop you from driving home a bunch of people from the pub.

That was the XSDirect Pumpkin tracker product (pay a 50eur charge if you drive between 10pm-6am on friday/saturdays), but as far as I know its only valid for < 21year olds

Just make sure that you read the policy for XS Direct; the excess could be high (€3k-€4k would be the norm) and you would usually get absolutely nothing extra with their policies. Its a way of getting insurance but just be aware of what you are paying for.

3K is the standard excess with XSDirect with the option of reducing it by 1k or 2k...There is an addon for windscreen cover, but thats about it. But if you go through a broker, you can buy the ad ons like breakdown and legal cover (...as you said, Money is no object :D )

That's correct. I think it something like an extra 20 euro for this cover with First Ireland.

Unsure if it's a new car or not, but if it is the F30...

Autocar named it best car in the (real) world.

Also the F30 has 181bhp and 380nm, and does 0-62 in 7.5s, with a top speed of 146mph. It may not be an M3, but it's easy to see why an insurance company wouldn't exactly want an inexperienced person driving it. Particularly with a price tag of €42k before you even consider third party damages.

Older E46 and E90 aren't exactly slow either with 150 and 161-175bhp respectively

I'm in a 2008 320d and I'm 25. I'm paying in the very low 4 figures with Britton insurance. Putting my 21 year old girlfriend on my policy nearly doubled it..

Try FBD insurance. When I got my provisional I was insured on my dads car with them on a 1.9 or 2.0 406, and after a year of being a named driver with them he transferred the car into my name and then ensured it in my name no problem. It was expensive over 2000 starting out, but there was never an issue with the engine size etc.

Let us know if you try them.
