Yeah big loss of jobs. Going to be a lot of people looking for work over the next two years.

What exactly do they do there? Are there particular skills or advanced equipment - capsules, tabletting? Surely the present owners won't want a taken-over Rathdrum to compete with them, and the plant and equipment are not likely anyway to be suitable for the activities of the company taking it over? So what exactly would the benefit be for such a new company to take it over?

MSD could sell it to another company (or even just give it away) just to get the cost of running the plant off their books and ask them to produce the same products under licence for MSD for a period of time until they get up and running with a new product.

What exactly do they do there?
It is an API manufacturing facility.

"Today, the site supports net sales of close to €1.5 Billion, supplying over 10 API's, primarily in fields of Respiratory Care, Infectious Disease and Cardiovascular medicine. API's manufactured in Rathdrum are exported to 20 countries around the world for formulation to the final dosage form."

    capsules, tabletting?
    No.

I have been working there for a number of years.
Believe me they intend to sell it.

Pfizer sold their Loughbeg API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) plant to a Portugese company, who reduced the headcount significantly

Yes. Schering Plough had a staff of about 400 as far as I remember when they owned the same facility. Then MSD took over and the head count was reduced.

Only time will tell what the requirements of the new owners will be.

Sorry that you'll be losing your job. What's the general market like for your field, or is the intention to sell the factory as a going concern?

Sorry that you'll be losing your job.

I am a contractor working for an engineering consultancy (who seem to have other work on).

They intend to sell the facility as a going concern.
