Lots of holding, no landing?

Had a look at the flight radar this morning and for the last 4-5 minutes or so none of the aircraft on screen were landing at DUB. All of them were/ still are stuck holding! Anyone know why?

Edit: just looked outside, seems foggy. Is it really that bad out there?

Heard talk of an incident on the ground frequency here at work. No idea what happened but Runway is closed.

I see, thanks for the reply. Hopefully nothing serious.

Dublin airport's main runway is currently closed after a small plane's nose-wheel collapsed on landing. No injuries reported.

Runway 16 just about to reopen now. As already stated seems to be a fairly minor incident and hopefully all involved are safe.

Yep. It's a pretty regular flight too, although that report on the journal says that they were intended for sale in pet shops. . as far as I know from work, they are lab rats/mice that eventually end up in a factory in the north. Also, apparently some of them are skinned and packed alive! Gruesome.

Was told the same myself, although in less detail! Loader I was talking to said they are live because he hears them squeaking when he's near it.

In this type of incident how long would the aircraft be on the runway before moving it? Also how do they move it, do they still use a tug?

I saw it being towed from a distance and it looked like a tug was towing it with the fire tender following from behind.

Just looking on flight radar, there seem to be loads of planes in hold around dublin? Any ideas?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭seven_eleven

I'm surprised there's no video of it. Presume it landed on runway 10? Where abouts did it come to a hault, was it infront of the viewing area?

I live like a mile South of 10 and visibility is still pretty poor, nowhere as bad as it was earlier in the evening though.
