What does this wording mean please?

    What does this wording in a letter from a lawyer actually mean and what is the purpose of mentioning it. Appreciate your help! Feel stupid that I can't figure out why is was thrown in there. :o

    "This letter is for settlement purposes only and shall not be used for any other purpose or be considered an admission of any kind pursuant to the Rules of Evidence"

    It probably means something like this; in the letter, you're being offered money to settle a case, but if you reject the offer and go ahead and fight the case, you can't produce the letter in court and say "Look! They offered me money! That means they know they are liable!"

    Thats more or less exactly what it means.
