    It seems:
    (a) Card Payments are down
    (b) ATM withdrawals not functional
    (c) Internet banking inaccessible

I took cash out of my ulsterbank account at about 7:30 this evening and have just logged off online banking?

Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

I went to the Ulster Bank ATM half an hour ago and couldn't take any money out. I can't log into their internet banking and their staff in the call centre are unable to give me any information. This is bloody crazy and not the first time this has happened, I'd hate to see what the situation would be if I actually had an account with Ulster Bank. I'm phoning Joe Duffy.

It wouldn't let me put through an order online or access my account at 9:45ish, but after an hour or so I was able to.

Serves them right for outsourcing almost all their IT to India. Pain in the ass for customers though.

The bank said it is aware of the problem and will give more information as it gets it:

Back up again according to RTE news @2am

AIB this week started to outsource parts of it's IT Department to the Indian company HCL..Bank of Ireland also use them. Our money has been put into Irish banks for their IT jobs to end up in India.

Bank Beancounter1: "You know this IT-department that we have?"

BC2: "Those guys who play with their computers all day and steal the bandwidth from my cat-pix downloads? Yep, know them."

BC1: "Do they actually make money for the company?"

BC2: "Not as far as I can tell, they only ever want some to spend on their toys."

BC1: "If we make most of them redundant, couldn't we put that towards a slightly bigger bonus? My wife's Audi Q7 is already over 10 month old, you know."

BC2: " Grand idea, lad. Let's do that! And let's outsource the leftovers to some other company. There's all kinds of good deals to be had, if you get an interpreter to do the negotiations. And maybe an extra week in Bangkok on the firm. For the negotiations, of course."
