NCT Failure question

    Hiya,

Put my 09 focus through the NCT today and everything passed bar my Daytime running lights which I fitted aftermarket myself.

The failure is for the auxiliary lamp switch does not operate independently of the side light. The guy testing it said that he reckons it needs a switch to operate them separately, now the DRL's automatically dip when the sidelights or dips are turned on exactly the same as my fathers 11 Mondeo.

The retest isnt going to cost anything so ill disconnect them and take them back to get it passed.

    Is this a vaild failure?

This seems to be happening a good bit now. The NCT seems to taking the view that DRL's fitted to any car that was not factory fitted with them are just considered as spot/auxiliary/fog lights so the rules for those apply.

There are various EU regulations for factory fitted DRL's, position, angle, brighness, how it functions with the other light etc etc and any aftermarket ones fitted can't be tested for having passed these regs.

Your setup is correct and is in line with EU regulations.

Unfortanletely you are not the first person who failed NCT for it.
It's a shame IMO, but it looks like you don't have a choice but just keep unplugging them for a test, unless NCT will change their requirements to match the law.

Take them out and go back...if its not there it can't be tested

No need to take them off. Unplugging is enough.
However it's a disgrace that they don't pass lights mounted within regulations.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I took the fuse out and went back and got it passed. I explained the situation to the new guy that inspected the change and him and another had a good head scratch before they passed it thought I told him that basically every new car on the road wasnt road legal if i was being failed for this.
Fuse back in and lights back on now anyway :)
