Hi, I have a JRT and a pomeranian and since we got the JRT last summer the garden has suffered immensely. there are now muc paths around the perimeter where he does his laps and the grass is very sparse on most other area which i have reseeded and put down a hefty bit of compost. my question is do you think this is enough or as i was thinking which may be more practical is to restore it in sections perhaps covering the area with chicken wire so their footfall doesnt disturb the young grass or fance off areas individually and restore it like that. i know when the pom was a pup same thing happened but i got the grass back decent after two years but with two dogs it will be a lot harder. i have resigned the fact that the laps they run will never be full grass so i am going to use them and make actual paths..have any of you any thoughts?

I'd say it's just a fact of life unfortunately. You could work hard to get your grass back in good shape but after a some rain and running on it ... back to square one. You could maybe look into some hard-wearing types of grass like you'd find on a playing field, but if they are doing laps of a certain area I'd say it will just get worn down. If you try to make that area into paths the dogs might just move back to the grass as it is what they like running on. I guess with age they will naturally slow down and you'll get your lawn back. I have a similar problem with the kids :)
