Never bought anything there myself except for the motorcycle socks. Don't laugh, they're actually class! Going to pick up another few pairs. Don't ask what they do different from ordinary socks either. They're just padded in a few places and made out of decent material.

have the socks as well and quite like them too.
Motorcycle Paddock Work Stand for €40 not seen these there before, can they be any good?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 15,858 ✭✭✭✭paddy147

The socks and compression leggings/top are very good quality for the price....(bought them before)

And the adjustable paddock stand for 40 euro.....well you cant go wrong with that.

I wear the socks and they are grand for what they are...I wonder if the Wireless cams are any good. Might mount one on the wall above the beast.....

I'm thinking the same!.. I have CCTV already but I can't view it upstairs so this sounds ideal.

On the forums recommendation I'll pick up some socks.

Slightly off topic because this refers to Lidl ~ I bought Lidl motorbike textiles a few years ago for €27, and they're a damned sight more comfortable and warm than the new RST pants I bought at the RDS!.

I have two of those paddock stands from the last time they had them, so far so good. Also have the socks and base layer, the do what they are meant to.

I hope no ones buys any of the protective clothing, I have seen the state of them and the rider after an accident, might as well be wearing your normal clothes and boots!

Considering picking up one of the paddock stands. Not sure about the need for one though considering I ride a marauder....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,739 ✭✭✭✭minidazzler

Will the paddock stand actually raise the front wheel? Looks like it's only good for the swingarm, if it'll raise the front I'm definitely getting one.

You can adjust the height you want to raise, it raises it for my fz6.

I wonder if the range will get to a bedroom, through the walls etc. For that price I would not say the range is that good or strong!
And if you buy two of them can you watch them both on the one screen?

Two in the bedroom would be better, you'd wanna get a few angles :P

So the compression leggings and tops are shyte then??

The bike paddock stand is shyte then??

The balaclava and neck/chest protector is shyte then???

The waterproof/windproof bike leggings are shyte then??

I THINK NOT...all very good for the money.

I had a look at it today and found the quality of the above mentioned to be rather good in fact.

The only items I thought were not good were the bike gloves (feck all protection in them) and the bike jeans.

I went over to my local aldis today also to have a look nearly everything was sold, only gloves and a pair of size 11 boots were left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,338 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Was in Aldi today getting other stuff and had a look. Have to agree with Makikomi, it was rubbish stuff. Didn't even bother with the socks.
Wouldn't have taken the jacket if it was free.
Didn't get a look at the lids, not sure about them

Yeah, the socks are great, was going to pick some up, even had 2 pairs in my hand. But at a fiver a pair they're just not worth it, any outdoor shop has decent enough padded hiking socks for way less that do the same job.

So why did you buy them in the 1st place and say you were going back for more???

Will you ever stop with the excuses now.

PS-The only person who "got you there".........is yourself .......(what you originaly posted on page 1 and then since).

A few bits and bobs from Aldi.

Paddock stand has 2 different quick release fittings for lifting the front or rear of a bike.:)

Paddock stand wont work on the rear of single sided swing-arm bikes.

I never bought them, a mate bought 2 pairs and gave me one.
I genuinely was in Aldi today and thought the stuff was fairly rubbish and overpriced, no idea why you don't believe me!
But back on topic, I'd tell anyone to go to cotters ahead of it, you'll get better gear for the same price.
But if you're miles away from Dublin, or aren't that bothered, go for it.

You're like the arkward recruit in the platoon who is always out of step with the rest of the troops, and only loved by his mother.

You actually play a funny game.

Cienciano, the socks.. There is not a snowballs chance in hell would I pay a fiver for one pair of those things.. Everything else, like I said 'pure sh*te'.

Thats a lovely mature post comming from a moderator.......:pac:

I found the underclothing, leggings and balaclavas/neck protectors to be of good quality.

So too is the bike paddock stand....well worth the money

The waterproof leggings are decent enough too....good quality when put up against a set of Richas or RSTs.

The textile jeans and the gloves are not so great...(especially the gloves).

Mak mods here now? Sh1t, never knew that... wait a minute... *looks left*.... hmmm

Mods are just posters when in other forums.

That said, if they still have the paddock stands I'm getting one on Thursday, could definitely do with another.

Well maybe be he/she should go and actually buy some of the bike clothing and actually try it out before saying that its all pure shyte and posting silly stuff.

Because I can tell you that alot of it of it is actually bloody good quality and is warm and comfy too.:)

There's a good reason why the gloves were left. Did you try a pair on? They were woeful quality. I could do with new gloves too.

every time this stuff come up its the same crap, and it will be repeated in a month when lidl do the same stuff,
PC you should come back then and lock that thread, as think you should have left this one locked..

its been said countless times before, if you feel like you got a bargain on any of the things good for you, if you trust said item to protect you in an off, well good for you, if you trust your pride and joy to a cheap axel stand well thats great and well done.

But for me, i like to know my stuff is well made and will survive etc so i steer well clear of most bargain brands when it comes to my life/skin/head.. my 2 cents so paddy dont go off on your high horse on me...

The socks I got were in Lidl not Aldi but I am sure they are more or less the same....They are better then wearing normal socks thats for sure but I dont think they are worth the price, maybe a euro or two cheaper.

Glad thread has been re-opened BTW.

I got some of that stuff on Sunday, I can definitely report that the wind stopper set works like a charm. 2 hours on bike yesterday in snow, hailstones and rain and was nice and worm. socks are good too. Dont trust the jacket, trousers to protect me, but the rest is meant to keep u worm which it does.

I might check out that again so.

I was hoping to pick up some gear for so passenger I carry from time to time, jacket, pants, gloves & boots & put the stuff back a little disgusted.

I was probably hoping for too much from a bargain bin.

Dont get me wrong I would much rather them do the bike stuff then no bother at all....but actually protective wear from Lidl/Aldi forget it.

Believe it or not I got great wear from a pair of Lidl textile trousers, and two crashes too.. but the seams were coming apart and had been repaired so I replaced them with RST textiles from the bike show.

I guess a lot of the stuff on sale yesterday would appeal to the commuter.

i got the paddock stand, just got it together and lifted the bike, not done anything more with it yet as i had to head, i did follow the earlier posted link to the seller in Cork on Ebay, and did hum and ha about which to go with. in the end aldi was a five min drive, and had my hands on it before buying. its heavy, and seems like good quality, at the end of the day when the bike is lifted without any hastle and it does not threaten to fall, what more do i want.
did not buy any of the other items for myself, my brother has asked me to pick up a few of them as he was out of the country. pulled them on to see fit etc. its hard to know though without a drive. but they would apear to do the job.

Plenty of paddock stands left in aldi in limerick today...was so tempted. My doggie has to go to a specialist though so im afraid that has to come first!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭peckerhead

Yup, plenty of paddock stands, pity about the compression undervests/pants... all gone by the time I'd got home and realised that Aldi's idea of "large" is closer to what I'd call a medium. But those baskets were empty an hour after the store opened on Sunday.

Guess I'll just have to shed a few pounds, no harm tbh! :o

I've been wearing Lidl & Aldi's textile trousers for last two years for my commute. Both of them have bee have started letting water in around the seat area after about a years use, but they are fine with some waterproofing spray (which Aldi was selling last year). They are comfy enough and I wear them without the liner over my formal work trousers.

This time around I picked up their Kevlar jeans. It's not very confidence inspiring, but might be okay to wear it around the bike rather than while riding it. Anyhow with the wet summers here, there's no chance for wearing it on a day out anyway. Also picked up couple of pairs of socks this time around, but they are not as good as the Lidl stuff from 2011, but they are fine, better than normal socks like already mentioned above. Also picked up the boot - a bit stiff, but not bad for the money.

Thats pretty interesting, I was looking at buying a pair of RST pants as I have the jacket already. Jackets awesome Id asumed the pants would be too.
Would yatake the Aldi/Lidl stuff over them?

Anyone know what the covers are like? I have two on covers on my bike; one that's ripped to bits and one that's nearly ripped to bits!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 308 ✭✭pegdrums

Im not to sure we'll get any replys mate. this thread is from last year.

From reading various old threads about Lidl/ Aldi gear the general consensus seems to be that its decent stuff for the price. I think the covers in Aldi are around 15 bills or something. It'd be better than no cover but won't last for ever id imagine.

Im looking to get my girlfriend a few bits but the boots are only in sizes 7-11 :(
Maybe get her the gloves, balaclava and thermals
