If you've a bit more to spend there's a fella on a Civic forum looking rid of his 2.2 diesel:

Can you give some more info on what CIVIC your hoping to buy.

E.g. Budget, Year of manufacture, Spec, etc.....

I like this 2008. Bit pricey but good on fuel.

    ek civic, 1996-2000 model
    3dr

Basically your average boy racer civic. The word spec didn't exist back then :pac:

Really just in and around the 2000 year and the most I'd spend is about 2000 quid on it.. Looking for a hatchback shape body also... I've a soft spot for the look of these cars so I'm determined to get one within the next year!

Well the Ek Civics would all be jap imports. The equivalent cars we got here were mostly EJ Civics.

It's going to be hard to find a good one of them at this stage but there is still a small few out there that aren't molested. If a good one can be found it will serve you well and keep going forever and ever because they are absolutely brilliant reliable machines.

One downside I found with mine was that it was very heavy on fuel. A mate of mine had a 1.5 and that was much easier on it. If buying one make sure the timing belt and the water pump are done or get them done if they aren't.

Also these are prone to rust underneath at this stage so make sure you have a good look underneath. Areas to check are, the chassis rails behind the rear floor and the drains in the same area, the front chassis legs(particularly from underneath and where they are spot welded to the front crossmember) and the rear wheel arches where the bumper meets the arch(the bumper rubs off the arch and over time the paint chips away leading to corrosion).

Thanks I've actually noticed rust n chipped paint in that part in the odd couple pictures I've seen... Also yeah me dad said the same about the cars if I buy one I'm more then likely only going to be fixing someone else's problems with it.. Hopefully I'll find a decent one but is there any dedicated websites or garages to them? I know there's one up the road in Blanchardstown but they've moved onto the newer models so its no use.

Your better off buying a standard unmodified example from a private seller imo.

Here is a 2001 1.4 Saloon, NCT is out of date though. Private seller.

I wouldn't care less who used to drive them TBH :). They are great cars.

Not sure what you mean by that, but my 1997 EK3 has air conditioning, electric windows, air bags, ABS, original radio with a CD changer... What more do you need?

? Ireland got loads of EK Civics. There are more Irish/UK EK Civics than Jap import ones.
OP, buy an unmodified one is rule number 1 on these.
I'd say you might have to make a trip to the UK to find a mint one, but sometimes really clean ones come up over here too, often a bit pricey though.

yeah i've noticed the price hike on a decent condition civic.. well thinking outside the box how much would i be looking at for getting a car from the UK, changing over the reg and tax or what evers needed to be done?

Is there something wrong with you? Did you not read my post. There is no such thing as an Irish/UK Ek sohc civic. Most european 3 door and 4 door civics were ''EJ'' civics. The same cars sold in japan were Ek civics, these came with different engine sizes and different outputs/bhp compared to their eu counterparts, they also came with different spec to eu civics.

No ek civic was ever sold new here apart from the ek4 vti dohc vtec, which sold in very limited numbers. In the UK of course more were sold but there are still far more ej sohc civics in the uk than ek4 vti dohc vtec versions.

The sohc ek versions are all used imports from japan and never actually came in 1.4, instead they came with a 1343cc 1.3 engine as opposed to the 1396cc 1.4 engine in the european ej civics.

There's nothing wrong with me thanks, and you might mind your attitude and explain rather than typing abuse.
The EK4 was the VTi wasn't it? So you're saying the EJ9 was the UK SOHC? What's the difference then between an EK hatch and EJ hatch, apart from engine?
