Has anyone else noticed the sound volume is significantly higher on the BBC HD, BBC1 HD etc compared to other SD channels, seems to be only the last few days but VERY annoying.

I'm in Dublin 16 if that matters.

Yeah it's how your tv handles the sound as its digital blah blah. I have mine going through an amp and the hd channels can only be controlled by the amp and not the box like other channels

Not sure I follow you there ted1, my UPC HD box sends sound to the TV via the HDMI cable, as does the PS3 and DVD player. The TV acts as a distribution hub and sends all sound to the amp. The setup hasn't changed since October last but the relative volume of UPC channels had changed in the last few days. I've changed ever setting I can find relating to sound on the TV and it makes no difference.

As usual I blame UPC :-)

Had this for a while now. A while ago ESPN HD started acting the same as the SD channels. UPC told me it was a known issue.

its a known fault with hd stbs although upc employees aren`t allowed to adv customers. No way around it.

Discovered myself that if you set the output volume of the box to max then the volume of SD and HD are similar, however if you lower the box output volume only the SD channel volume changes, HD ones stay on max. So, set the box output volume to max and use your TV/amp to control the volume.
