HSE vs DFB Ambulance

I have a random question that I've been wondering about for a while. If I ring, from Dublin and request an ambulance, who decides whether it's a HSE or DFB unit that responds? Is there a central or Dublin-based control centre that knows the availability of units from both organisations?

It depends on where the incident occurs, DFB covers city centre and areas close to Dublin City Centre such as Dolphins Barn, Donnybrook and Phibsboro.

The exceptions to this would be DFB Ambulances in Swords, Tallaght and Blanchardstown.

That said, HSE have a base in James's Street. HSE generally cover the suburbs such as Loughlinstown on the southside.

    Hope this helps :)

However , HSE have been known to attend incidents in city centre , DFB not really in a position to cover the suburbs as they don't want to leave CC short of cover.

At least, that's my understanding of the matter.

Just for clarity DFB cover all the suburbs except for the majority of the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area which is covered by the EHB in Loughlinstown.

Believe me when I say a DFB ambo can end up anywhere in Dublin and at times in Meath, Kildare, Wiklow and even Louth !!!!

While the EHB have smaller numbers I'm sure they'll say the same, with or without Sat navs ;)

I imagine that the DFB and HSE help one another out etc, is there a chance at some time that all ambulance cover in Dublin will be by HSE and that DFB just handle Fires and Rescues etc,?

I saw a DFB Ambu coming from Maynooth at one stage and often out near Lucan so it's not uncommon to see them out of the CC

Lucan, I can understand as its located between 2 DFB stations (Blanch & Tallaght) but DFB in Maynooth ??? HSE must have been really stretched that day.

For someone seemly in the know you should know EHB is gone. Its now HSE east

Presume it was maynooth, met it on the opposite side of the road coming from maynooth on a transfer.

Yea, I'd say the HSE was under pressure that day, it was back in October/November if I remember correctly.

Old habit. Sorry if it offends. Not intended.

Now we can debate if they are called NAS or HSE.

If NAS, then we work with NAS North Leinster. If HSE then we work with HSE Dublin North East and Dublin Mid Leinster.

For somebody seemly (sic) in the know I know that it is not HSE East ;)
