Hi and thanks for taking the tie to read this :).

My insurance policy is coming up for renewal and I have a claim on my insurance due to vandalism to my car. Im currently with RSA who are quoting me 958 euro, after ringing around loads of insurance company they were all in around the 1000 euro.

Then checked no nonsense and got a quote 0f 650 euro so Im a bit skeptical as to why they are so much cheaper? Ive checked the excess on the quote its only 300. Are they a reliable insurance company?

Did you check the other add-on benefits that maybe included in other policies? Things like breakdown assistance, windscreen cover, full or step back NCB protection, etc. They can all be removed from a policy to make it look very competitively priced. If the policies are exactly like for like then it makes sense.

Was with Nononsense last year, beat everyone else hands down on price with all the benefits I needed and a low excess. Have no complaints about them at all, other than they don't haggle - Aon Insure came in MUCH lower than them this year :)

Yeh I checked here is the list there giving on the no nonsense quote, it suprisingly cheap, Im thinking there has to be a catch somewhere.

    • Fire Brigade Attendance Charges
    • Towing Costs
    • Locks and Keys Replacement
    • Windscreen/Glass Breakage
    • Personal Property
    • Personal Accident
    • Breakdown Assistance Cover
    • Policyholder Driving Other Cars
(Does not apply to those under 25 years of age or with a Provisional Licence)
    • No Claims Discount Stepback Protection
(Only applies to those with 3 or more years of No Claims Discount)
    • Claims Excess of €300
(This excess is increased by €250 for additional drivers under 25 or provisional licence/learner permit holders.)

    Aren't No Nonsence FBD??

I was with No Nonsense last year as they came in the cheapest. I renewed this month with another company. The excess this year from No Nonsense was automatically set to €1500 and the quote was dearer than last year.

So I went with another company that was cheaper and where I got more benefits.

Was with NoNonsense.ie last year and they gave the best quote. This year went for 25plus.ie and quote was 100 euro cheaper than renewal with NoNonsense.

They certainly are cheaper. Their TPFT quote with all the options ticked is still €200 cheaper than the equivalent TPFT quote with 123.ie for me.

I'm with No Nonsense for a few years now. They're always the cheapest for me. Never had a problem with them.

Just got renewal from them, and it is as little as if i tried buying new policy with them. So far no competitor came close enough to beat them, and some quoted me for 1600, when their (NoNonsense) quote is 305!!!
Just make sure you get right cover for your needs.
    It is FBD btw.

I was with Nononsense. Bought a car in the UK and rang them up to transfer the insurance over (from a 2.0l diesel MG ZT with 136hp to a 2.5l petrol MG ZT with 187hp) and they stated they couldn't transfer the insurance over as it was a 'high performance car', but that they could temporarily cover it for 3 days for €120(only €14,240 a year, bargain!)

Should have probably checked first, but who the **** classes a 187hp saloon as 'high performance' and refuses to cover it for an existing customer?

Never went back, never will. I shop around on insurance for 3 family members and my gf, and none of them will ever be with Nononsense(or FBD) again. :)

They charge you everytime you want to make a policy change, it's a pain in the hole

25 euro iirc. If one is going to change car/address or any other details, i would say go with another company, but make sure they won't charge you for the same (other companies do the same).
As mentioned before their policy is value for money, but it isn't cheap for all.

They have some odd terms and conditions too or at least they had when I tried to get a qoute off them, one was having to be over 25 before they'd insure you as a named driver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,224 ✭✭✭✭Marty McFly

Cheers for all the replies :), I went with no nonsense in the end cheapest quote I got by over 300 gives me all the cover I need, as for administration fees Im well used to them after being with 123.ie for the last three years.

With nononsense for a few years now, they do automatic renewal, so I don't even have to do anything, just wait for the new disc to arrive. Suits a lazybones like me down to the ground.
My premium is 345 is thereabouts, fully comp with breakdown assist.
Never had any trouble with them. In previous threads a lot of people hated on them, but it seems to happen with everyone in Ireland who decides to offer a cheaper product, just look at Aldi, Lidl, Ryanair, Dacia, etc... people seem to get hugely upset at budget brands for some reason.
The problem is that people don't trust a low-priced offer, they immediately suspect there's something wrong with it. Can't blame them, after decades of being hugely ripped off by domestic businesses who would sell shoddy products at huge prices and even shoddier products at still high prices. There was no escape. During the boom cheapo outfits suffered greatly because people would spend more money to show they could afford it, it was a competition, like having the newest X5 in your drive. Maybe because people where so poor in the past, having anything old, second-hand or cheap is a sign of poverty and there is a fear of other people laughing and pointing.
(please add grain of salt to above rant:P)

What you drive? They won't insure my GF's MX5, as it is a "high performance car"
I'm afraid they are very much geared towards middle-aged professionals driving nothing more exiting than a diesel Mondeo. If you even vaguely smell of young male driver, driving anything remotely exiting, they don't want to know. Hence the cheap prices. And I would agree that this would be annoying the sensible young drivers.

In fairness they were the cheapest for me by quite a bit and even though I'm not young 29 as many insurance companies love to tell me I fall into the young male driver category.

They did raise my insurance by 125 euro when I changed car but given I have only 3 years no claims due to a claim for criminal damage and my car is a e90 330i m sport I'm happy enough with that.

A lot of their rules are a load of nonsense tbh. It's not their prices that's making people angry.

It's their misleading adverts that made me angry. They give the impression that you will have no bother getting insured from them and for a good price.

This isn't exactly true however. They have some very strange rules that makes it impossible for some people to get insurance from them.

An example of this is having to be over 25 to get insured as a named driver(which is pure nonsense Imo) they, in my experience, will then offer you a policy in your own name but at an extortionate price(far more expensive than some other insurance companies)

They are FBD by another name aiming at the young driver who is in the higher risk market. Putting a stipulation on the named driver policy reduces the scenario of where it is easy for a parent to insure the car under one of them as the main driver and adding their young son or daughter as a named driver where in reality they would be the primary driver, on what would be consider a powerful car.

In fairness anyone who actually believes the bollox spouted by insurance companies in adverts needs to take a hard look at themselves. They are not even subtle most of the time about stating that whatever nonsense figure they are coming out with is based on a middle aged woman living in the safest location in the country, with no points or convictions, driving the most boring 1.0 car on the road.

Its not even worth getting angry about any more; for anyone who drives a car that is in any way our of the ordinary it should come as no surprise that the vast majority of insurers do not want your business.
