    Our six week beginners course which will teach you all you need to know about the art of Djing. You will learn everything from the most basic setup needs to the intricate art of mixing in key. The course will be divided into three distinct parts each covering the vital elements to reach your potential as a DJ. Below is a basic outline of what will be covered within the six week course. Tutors include David De Valera and Residece regulars Yunisun as well as a number of guest DJs.

    David De Valera is one of Ireland’s most prominent djs and producers. As a resident in the renowned Pod nightclub in Dublin for 5 years he played alongside some of the finest names in dance music including Adam Bayer, Tiefshwarz, and Joris Voorn, Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath. As a producer he has had a number of successful releases which have attracted support from the likes of Nic Fanciulli, Richie Hawtin and Marco Carola as well as earning himself a Beatport no.17 with Say That. With over 15 years experience in both djing and production he is equipped to provide the insight and instruction needed by young up and coming djs.

    Part 1) Equipment & Set-up:

    • Equipment & functions

    • Turntables, mixer and cartridges

    • Introduction to Pioneer CDJs

    • Leads and connections

    Beats, Bars and Phrasing:

    • Tempo and BPM (beats per minute)

    • Structure: beats, bars and phrases

    • Finding the first beat of the bar

    • Cueing a track: faders and pre fade controls

    Drop Mixing:

    • Switching between styles and tempos

    • Matching levels

    • Cueing

    • Crossfading Know Your Music

    • Reading vinyl grooves

    • Spotting tunes that work together

    • Reading the crowd

    • Structuring a mix / mixing in key

    Beat Matching:

    • Adjust speed of record/CD player

    • Manually adjust the speed of the record

    • Pitch shifting

    • Crossfading smoothly

    Part 2:

    We will show you how to add a real performance element to your set and how to put together a professional demo to get those all-important gigs.

    Consolidate Your Mixing:

    • Professional tips to ensure a solid DJ technique

    • Resolve problem areas with your mixing

    • EQ, monitoring, headphone levels

    • Panning, level matching and phrasing

    CD Mixing / EFX:

    • Pioneer CDJ 1000 / 2000/ 2000 Nexus

    • Vinyl mode, pitch controls and time-stretching

    • Creating and saving cue points and loops

    • Creative digital DJ tricks

    • Learn how to use a pioneer RMX1000, feedback looping, transpose scratching and more.

    • Using Pioneer Rekordbox

    MP3 Mixing with Traktor and Maschine

    • Using Traktor Controllers

    Mixing MP3 and .wav files

    • Hot cues, sampling

    • Creating playlists

    • Converting vinyl to digital Sampling and Effects

    • Learn how and where to use effects

    • Delay, flange, phasing and filtertricks

    • Pioneer DJM on board effects and sampler

    • Basic scratch techniques and acapella mixing

    Promoting yourself as a DJ
