I used to watch it on RTE on Sundays, 5pm I think....I thought the first 3 seasons were the best with Jessica Beil....once she left to get her baps out and cash in the show went pants.

I know the whole conservative, middle white America, Christian bible belt stuff pissed off a lot of the democrats/liberals....but it did have a wholesome feel to it, family values.

It did seem out of touch and in it's own little bubble, but you have to admire a show that lasted 10 seasons, it wasn't for everyone but I think it had its heart in the right place :)

I remember, for some bizarre reason, I saw an episode where one of the kids stole a glass from a pub. He was treated like he stole heroin and was told to bring it back, which he did, but the manager was pissed and decided to take his ass to court...............over a glass.

Then in court the doors open up and all these people, supporting the kid, come in holding things that they had taken from the pub.

    Horrible, horrible, cheesy fairyland TV.

There was an episode where the son started wearing baggy jeans. The dad sat him down and asked him did he know where these styles came from. He was told "Jail". Then he was told if he kept wearing these clothes he would end up in jail.

    Da fuq?

Probably one of the worst tv shows I have ever had the misfortune of catching an episode of. I think it was similar to one of the above descriptions. Some lad was caught smoking, not one of the kids, this lad in his 30s, one of the boyfriends of the daughters from what I gathered, and it was like he had snorted a load of coke, injected some heroin and then raped and beaten a few people.

I'm a non smoker and dislike smoking but jaysus this episode was one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

Didn't the Dad from this turn up in It's Always Sunny as Dennis and Dee's real father.

He was so nice that they all hated him.

It was crap, but I just watched it for Beverley Mitchell. Babe!

In real life he's married to Julie from V and his 7th Heaven Wife was the whale biologist in Star Trek 4. Those are my two (and only) favourite things about 7th Heaven.

I found myself watching this too and I don't know why. It was awful with all the OTT morality lessons.

The kids in this show also seemed to get engaged as soon as they turned 18.

Unfortunately I don't think the 7th Heaven theme song will ever leave my head.:(

David Quinn gives the show 5 stars.

    It was chronic

    Bad enough.

If you want a show that demonstrates the stresses involved in raising a family and young people then watch Friday Night Lights. At least it was able to explore those issues, and how they affected the characters, without bashing you over the head with Morality 101.

I love the way the younger brother goes mental at him when he admits that the joint is his!

    WHY???? WHY???? DAMN YOU!!!!

That clip is hilarious. The script is dreadful. I used to love 7th Heaven when I was in my early teens.

I made a special point of never watching it after reading the programme info. Sugary vomit-inducing crap.

I can imagine it. The father bringing them down to the local clinic to be tested. "Now <insert childrens name here>, just pee into this cup and we'll know by tomorrow"

This thread really makes me want to watch the show.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry over the fact that I used to enjoy watching this 7th Heaven :o It's cringe-worthy looking back now; but it was just pure harmless television viewing really.

Jeez, this is one serious blast from the past Richard Dower, what made you think of it again?

It's like Murder She Wrote. I watched it religiously as a child and loved it but I saw an episode a couple of years ago and I couldn't figure out why I loved it so much. I'm nearly afraid to watch any more than that clip of 7th Heaven because I'll just ruin it for myself.

ah stop! Wasn't she just something else like, they just couldn't solve anything without her :)

Though it's not as bad as this CSI nonsense on tv these days though - pure un-realistic drivel!

Jessica Beil is genuine reason enough to admit to watching this programme. Possibly the only one.

Didn't Mary get pregnant out of marriage and get sent away?? Or am I making that up?

It was brilliant - Sunday afternoons on RTE, I was about 8/9 when it started I think.... Even then I remember it being cringy... all that flute music in the backround....

I'm pretty sure that if you had missed mass, watching this on Sunday afternoon would count against your tally? :pac:

It started at 6 on a Sunday evening on RTE1, I used to watch it religiously as a child. It had quite the effect on me personally, I am now an atheist.

And I would say that the only reason it lasted so long was cause it was on the CW or the WB as it was back then. I'd say any other channel and it would have been cancelled years before. If ye think the early seasons were bad then the last few were on a while other level, the writing, acting and pretty much everything were trash.

I'll cough to having watched this - yes it was a bit holier-than-thou but it was kinda homely as well. And, of course, the women, who when you're of a certain age were as good as porn.

Don't regret watching it, don't think it was terrible - but not exactly award-winning either.

The dad seems a bit stressed out there. Maybe he should light up that joint (or dope) and calm down.

I think your right about that, I think she went to stay with Eric's father, the colonel or the Sargent or something military-y was what they all called him. That was how they wrote her out I think. She would appear every once and while on the phone and eventually it would just be one of the characters talking to her on the phone but no Mary.

Hilarious, this was my secret shame, watching it on a Sunday evening while ironing clothes for the week ahead - cos you have to watch tv while doing boring ironing, and hey 7th Heaven just happens to be on...it was a seriously uncool programme ah but so wholesome and full of moral lessons!! Plus everyone in it was easy on the eye.
The episode I remember is when Jessica Biel / Mary got her first period and went for a jog with the younger sister (erm as you do). They met a guy Mary fancied so the younger sister thought it would be funny to embarass her by throwing a tampon out of her pocket on the ground in front of Mary, yer man spotted it and Mary had to pick it up, all morto...not sure what the lesson was there but I probably interpreted it as "don't exercise when you have your period" :D
I also remember the older brother posing in front of the mirror getting ready for a date, pointing at himself with his fingers like guns, saying how hot he looked?!
Yes after all these years I can still remember the theme tune...*cringe*
