i have got lots of brown trout on the rainbow rapala, and yes on ree mate, :D i have a few brown trout rapalas too but havent got too many on those funny enough!!! i find the roach rapala better for mask, or the black and gold, though to be honest its tazzies all the way once the water levels drop back to near normal!!! on both ree and mask

Not necessarily, I've had big trout or two on a silver coloured shad rappala (the silver one here) on Mask, and I hooked into what I think was a big pike (that got away) with it there too.

The more natural ones definitely work better and more regularly, but it's always worth having something entirely different to try for the days that they don't.

hows it going man, just wondering what size trebles you rig the tazzies with for trout and if you find the bigger or smaller tazzies better?
do you get line twist when trolling with them?

i use the trebles that come with them, but i cut off the wire insert and put a small swivel and split ring on the hook, use 2 barrell swivels roughly a metre up the line to counteract any line twist, i only use one size the standard one, 50 or 60mm? its not everyones way of fishing them but it works for me:D

Il be fishing lough owel end of month in a competition between some mates and have won it twice in 3 years using same tazmanian devil
It's had a perch colouring on it and is great for trawling and when I stop the boat and just cast it I turn the lure opposite way and always works as the taz can be used in two ways
Never figured out why but it does work that way
Anyone care to tell me why

As a matter of interest when you lads go trolling do you change lures and set up to target pike or can you use the same gear as for trout? I'm wondering would you need wire traces, stronger line etc for pike.

I definitely use wire traces when targetting pike. I've seen some people say you can use a leader of heavy line and that will be ok, and as many people say that it has to be wire, so I'm not sure about that but I'd always stick with wire.

Normal line is definitely to light and a pike can chew through it too easily leaving them with a lure stuck in their mouth, so it's not something I'd want to risk.

If there is even a handful of pike on a trout lake I'd always put a trace on just to be sure
I was told there wasn't pike in lough Owel and low and behold I got one on a taz trawling for trout
Just leave trace on won't do any harm :D

I've always caught trout on taz with wire trace
Course there are different ones to use
I'd say home made ones may effect it a bit but ones in the shop come in all lengths and have different colours
I usually use black traces or green (probably only colour they have )
Even the ones from lidl have worked
