It's been much commented on for the last week. They were waiting for him to be charged.

If Sinn Fein were involved I am sure it would be a front page story.

Er, this has been in the news for days, it is just now that he can be named because he was formally charged.

Pretty bad for FF, again it makes the party look like it is full of financial cowboys who do anything (in this case even murder) to hide their money from the tax man.

Looks like power can make people go mad.

It's now a court case, so regardless of whether he is FF, SF or ULA all that the media can and will report is the bare bones of what happens in court.
No salacious front page gossip at all, and threads on here it will be correctly locked.

When I heard the level of arrogance and moral deficit in this case I thought straight away it has to be FF .

Even before the suspect was named.

Just another reason I don't vote for FF .

Rotten to the very core ........ Allegedly

This is off the charts crazy. How on earth did this guy think he could pull this off. If guilty he deserves a serious stretch behind bars. Though, I believe 10 years is the maximum. What a horrible plan to hatch. 3 peoples lives he wanted to end, and all because they were an inconvenience for him?

I possibly think that the man is not mentally well.

Dont underestimate the arrogance of Fianna Fáilers.

This is the family who have passed around that council seat after all.

Yes, but anybody can become mentally ill, and such a malady cannot be ruled out at this stage as to the alleged actions of the man.

He was also arrested for posession of a knife in a nightclub after he gave the staff abuse, threw a drink over a girl's head, told the staff and Gardaí that he was a solicitor and that they can't touch him whilst giving them abuse. Nothing wrong with him he is just a scumbag.

The Flynn's (especially Noel) are arrogant, corrupt and delusional Fianna Fáil clowns (just like Bertie Ahern, Brian Cowen, Micheal Martin & co) who helped run this country into the ground and continue to prevent Ireland from ever really progressing, I can never understand why people vote for them.

Sounds like traditional FF arrogance and greed at the root of this.

A FFer is about to be exposed and allegedly does everything in his power to cling on.

Maybe he has mental issues on top of the underlying FF condition.

I think it is important to highlight that the person in question is no longer a member of Fianna Fáil, nor has he been for some time now.

I would also be reluctant to cast judgement on this case so quickly, especially if you are not aware of the mental well being of the individual in question. In fact considering that the individual is no longer in public life, nor is he a member of any political party, I am not sure of the relevance of this thread.

Don't make me laugh, if it was a former member of Sinn Féin you would be saying the opposite. You say he is a former Fianna Fáil politician which I already know but what evidence is there that he actually left Fianna Fáil?

Hi Sierra , when did he leave the party?

It's not often I think something is outrageous, but I remember thinking as much when I first heard about this on the radio. How on earth did he think he could get away with something like that. He either needs to be locked up for his own good or for the good of others.

Well I havent commented on Sinn Féin and the topic of members being arrested in light of a story which broke in recent weeks, but I may as well now that you have brought it up.

Do the Sinn Féin supporters on this forum have a view to express in regards the recent arrest of the prominent Sinn Féin member, Sean Hughes? He is a well known strategist for SF, and can be seen in Leinster House regularly meeting with Sinn Féin deputies alongside members of the political staff team. He was seen only a few weeks ago in Leinster House under such circumstances.

Sean Hughes was recently arrested for membership of a subversive group, whose core aim is to undermine this state. He is also aiding the PSNI into the actual murder investigation of Robert McCartney.

So, in light of these revelations can an SF member perhaps provide insight as to whether Sean Hughes will continue to act as a senior strategist for the party? Furthermore should we be expecting the arrest of any further high ranking members for being members of a subversive group, or indeed to aid any murder inquires?

Not sure, but at the time of his appearance in court in 2012 the media were at that stage reporting that he was a former member of FF.

Until he is convicted with anything I have nothing to say on the matter.

    No idea.

That's true but it should be obvious as to how this has come about. Reckon myself he will serve any sentence in Dundrum.

Are you proposing some form of Fianna Fail decomissioning process with independent international observers?

Seeming as they helped arm the Provisional IRA, sure why not? ;)

I assumed it was SF, until I noticed that the Sindo didn't have ten pages devoted to it with lots of hints.

Well for someone to attempt such an alleged outlandish crime one could perhaps assume that the accused was mentally ill, so I presume the Court will ask for psychiatric reports?

    Or criminally inclined and/or stupid.

It is for the defence to offer a psychiatric defence.
