IT Contractor Indemnity

Hi all, I hope someone can advise.
Pal of mine has been offered a contract in Cork but he's been told by the agent that he'll have to pay insurance indemnity up front to the agency. It's his first contract and he's not sure.

This sounds odd to me, I've had some experience in this area but never heard of a contractor having to pay up front?

    Is this now the case?
    Thanks
    KD

Is it possible that they are acting as a broker and attempting to sell his Ltd Comp a policy but the message has got a bit garbled?

It could well be. It was a phone conversation, I've advised him to get it in writing. Most peculiar.

Some places insistYes get an email / written confirmation. If they are insisting then surely they are free to make their own arrangements and the agent shoukd be satisfied with any evidence provided.

~Gotcha. I would have thought a third party umbrella company would cover this. Perhaps it's just an error. Will keep you posted and many thanks for the advice.

Yes some offer this and adjust their fee accordingly.
