well for the week thats in it... what do you think of pop songs sung as gaelige??

to me its a big no no, pop/rock music sounds best in english sung with an american accent even if its a put on american accent

theres better ways to promote the irish language and this isn't one of them

As hard to take seriously as any translated song really, especially as an instrumental.

Is the bill for this carry on going to the taxpayer?

Actully paid for by sponsors, with a lot of work done by volunteer groups.

    ;)

But hey, dont let that stop people by turning it into a government trashing thread like most other ones on AHs.

Super Furry Animals have done a few albums in Welsh, would be cool if some Irish bands did some in Irish too.

The Ceol albums were great, and the proceeds went to charity as well!

The Galway Girl in irish is brillant. Cailin na Gaillamhe its called. It makes irish sound very sexy and irish used to give me headache in school and all and that says something.

Can't wait to hear Ho Hey.

I'd be very surprised if there was an Irish language song that caught on and actually made it into the top 40.

Des Bishop's attempt was mildly amusing, but couldn't be considered 'cool'.

Níl ann ach cac le Lady Gaga in cibé teanga a roghnaíonn tú. Níl an locht ar an Gaeilge sa cás sin.

There is a band called the heathers, they did that song for tourist Ireland I need to get away, well they have a few songs in Irish quite good I think.

It's not so much a pop song as Gaeilge but I remember this song at the end of Metal Gear Solid yonks ago. About half way through suddenly thinking: Hang on a sec......

Was in Clifden last year and heard an ageing 'Sean Nos' singer do an excellent 'as Gaelige' version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody', accompanying himself on the spoons with a mangy dog perched on his lap whining incessantly throughout the performance, much to the delight of the many French and Italian tourists who also sang along in our mellifluous Irish tongue...... I think the man was English, but he made a few bob that day.
    Good luck to him!

What's the Irish translation of :

I see a little silhouetto of a man scaramouche scaramouche will you do the fandango

There're plenty of metal bands that sing and have songs as Gaeilge. Even a fair few foreign bands, I can think of a couple of German ones, that have the odd few songs in Irish as well.
