No Claims Protection

    Hi,

I was recently in a small car-park accident. Liability hasn't been decided.

I have no-claims protection on my insurance (before this I never had any claim for 13 years driving).

If a claim is made against my insurance, I *think* I go from 6 years NCB to 4 years NCB.

However, my question is is this NCB transferable? Is this new NCB only for the insurance company Im currently with, or will another company recognise it?

With stepback NCB you should be okay with another company recognizing it, however it may vary depeding on the company. Your bigger problem may be that a lot of insurers are reluctant to take on new business unless you a claim free for a number of years (usually 3 from my experience).

How small an accident are we talking and how much damage was caused? It might be cheaper and less hassle in the long run to sort the cost without involving the insurance.

We were both moving in the car park when the cars hit each other, so a claims investigator has been appointed to determine liability.

The damage to my car is ~2500 and his car is about the same as far as I know.

In most cases I'd pay rather than going through insurance, but this is a little hefty if I'm found liable. I don't think I should be liable but I'm preparing for the worst.

That's heavy damage for a car park prang!

    I know!

On my car it's a two doors damaged (which is ~2500) for new doors and paint (I don't want to do a cheap fix cos my car is pretty new).

On his car, it's scraping from front wing to rear quarter. Since it's an old car, I think his insurance are writing it off. I'm just guessing the price of 2k for his.
