'How Much to Hire' Thread

    Hi Folks,

For the past while I have been renting a system from a small company. PA, Lights etc and the deal has been I can use it as I wish and then in return I'd do a little work / maintenance for them.

Giving the downturn and all that, I can't do as much work for them and in the light of fairness I want to pay for the hire. Gear is very decent, never had a problem and more than adequate for a 500+ person function if I wanted it that big.

So, the big question is, whats a fair price for rentals in general? I have a rough idea of PA's but I've never rented lights so I have no idea whats a fair price for them.

What would you expect to pay for a decent PA and 6 moving lights per night?

    It depends on the make.

A Maplins Pa/lights system.......... Or a Dynacord pa and Martin lights?

Do you want stands or truss? Subs?

What did you use to rent?

I had to rent a pa a few years back and paid €150 for subs, tops and mixer. No lights.

Recently rented moving heads for €50 per day. Martin mac250's.

Last year, I had to hire tops, bins, 5 mics, mixer and lights for a small battle of the bands. Incl, delivery and installation, (no work on my part) it cost €350 for the night. Thankfully we got over 100ppl in at €5 a head but we took a major risk. Personally I thought it was a small bit dear and very easy money!! Providing nothing went wrong of course.

For a small dj PA and lights you'd prob pay €100 if u collected it and set up yourself. Anymore and it wouldn't be worth doing! :)

But like anything, you could pay big money if u wanted the biggest, best and most reliable.

If your going to be renting lights weekly, you'd be better of buying a second hand t-bar par can or LED bar or some moving heads.
