AAAAAAAAAGH. Scoured my paintwork...

Trying to get rid of some peculiar substance sticking to passenger door, think I may have been too vigorous as the silver paint now looks slightly discoloured in patches. It looks whiter or lighter.

Any quick fix solutions? Or am I looking at a paint whole door job, and if so anyone know a good body repair place in Cork? And what would the damage for a big job be roughly?

    Thanks.

It should polish out but may need a machine polish. But if the lacquer is damaged it might need more work.

    Thanks for that.

Obviously you can't say with any certainty, but could you guesstimate the cost of such stuff if I bring it to a body shop, say are we looking at 50 for a professional buff and polish job or 500?

It's a mistake I won't make again, and I don't even wanna think about what was in it...I won't leave my car parked near a pub overnight again either!

Owen Hodder (alongside John Harrington), Tramore Road worth a visit for paintwork, can't offer an estimate but painting it won't cost €500.

Thanks, might call in there and see what they say. Car is a 9 year old Saab, in pretty good nick, so would pay 50 or 100 to keep it looking good, but anything more than that and I might just live with it...and my regrets!

you could try that stuff you get in the tube that you rub on to remove light swirl marks and scratches, would be my first port of call anyway for the sake of a few euro...

G3 cutting compound ? really good stuff, thats what i would be trying op but if you do dont rush it, its difficult enough to work with so allow for plenty of time.

not sure which are the more recommended compounds, but I reckon its worth a try at least... Even if it does enough to rectify most of damage and take the eye off it...

Wouldn't bother calling in if that's the case to be honest :)
    Try rubbing compound as mentioned.

Post a pic up actually, there's some knowledgeable folks on here.

    Thanks for all the pointers.

Tried Owen Hodders, they had a look at it and said rather than bringing it in for a full job if I wanted they would give me a hand and compound it for me. I could then take it away and finish it off myself. Seemed very helpful, I guess from what they're saying it's not a serious paint job anyway. However, not really sure what exactly compounding means, and what would my finishing it off involve.

I might try and get the wife to post up pics...as well as not being great with cars, not great with computers either!
