I'll do my best to describe this but i started the car and it started to make a noise, it gets louder the higher the revs i make. I had to drive it home so the higher the gear the less noise it made, when i coasted the noise would die down.
There's also no engine light showing on the car, it's a 06 Ford focus btw.
    Anyone help please?

1.4 Petrol. Ford focus hatchback LX, been told by a mechanic it's got the 2007 engine in it.

Oh and when i turned the car into the driveway at home the steering went a bit funny, the noise got loud there as well.

Can you describe the noise? Or maybe make a short video, put it on YouTube and link it here?

check the power steering fluid level and see if its low, its not uncommon for the high pressure pipe to leak/split

Good idea, here's the engine and the noise. As can see it's coming from around the Timing belt....

does the noise get worse when the steering is turned on fully to either direction?

One possibility could be alternator pulley/bearings

its the power steering pump noisy because its low on fluid

Ha, ****e fair enough. It's approaching the min level but not quite there yet. Will filling it back up solve the problem?

i think if you look at your vid at 0.07 i think i can see fluid on the cover at the bottom of the car, if so you have a leak

You're good! Just checked and there's fluid on the bottom of the car.
Is this a cheap or expensive fix?

i dont think its too bad if its the power steering pipes, you will need pipes, fluid, a connection that screws into the power steering pump and possibly a fan/alternator belt if power steering oil has got on it, maybe about 2 hours to do the job,

its probably better you get it done as soon as possible, the pumps dont like being run without oil

This is like one of those news report, doctor in one country operating on a patient in another country via video link and robotics, you don't happen to have a robotic arm equipped with a toolkit handy do you OP?

Check the switch on the pump, I had one fail last month. It leaked fluid until the noise made it clear something was up. €46 (IIRC) from main dealer.

It just needs a new union pipe and top up the fluid job done. Handy enough to do yourself if your anyway handy.

Had one up to yesterday but it started making a funny noise. I'll post up a clip of that, are you handy at fixing robotic arms?:D

Mechanic was out, reckons it's either a leak or it needs a new pump, so either a cheap or expensive fix. Fingers crossed here.

It was a leak in the pipe but i was charged 200 euro, does that sound pricey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

i had to replace the power steering pipes in a 05 focus, the 2 pipes were 80 from a main dealer and i can't remember how much fitting cost

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭keithsfleet

Did you ask for a break down of the costs?
