    Hi
    I'm new to shore fishing.
I've got a house booked for 2 weeks in August near Hook Head and am wondering what marks are good down thereand what species are there? Also where to buy/dig bait. I've only got basic gear for myself and the young lad ( 2x 12ft beach casters and a tripod)

    Any advice would be great

You can dig bait in duncannon or come across the ferry and dig ragworm in passage east, the right hand side of slade harbour is a good spot for wrasse, you can fish the hook head itself for mackerel, pollock, wrasse, dogfish and conger, if you dig bait in duncannon on low tide you could fish off the pier on the incoming tide , there is also two small beaches called booley bay and dollor bay that are worth a try for bass in the night time, there is a small grocery shop that sells basic tackle just before you come to the lighthouse

    Thanks flounder,
Would love to try some bass fishing. As I'm only learning I haven't a clue. What time of night would you want to fish and what bait would you use?

You cant beat fresh peeler crab, but the lug and ragworm you will be digging will do grand, if you can find a quite spot on one of the beaches you can fish in the day time, try get the high tide times and go fishing 2 hours before high tide, dont use hooks that are too big that way you have a better chance of catching something, use hooks from size 2 to 1/0.
Be very carefull when you go digging bait on low water because the tide can come in very fast behind you and cut you off
