I thought I'd see what was possible....see a bit more of the country

Mallow to Wexford can't be done as appartently the last train back leaves before I would leave Connolly to go there!

Mallow to Sligo can be done though, getting back at 23.30 or somesuch time!

I reckon Westport and/or Ballina may be possible.

    Any more suggestions?

It can be done from Limerick if you didn't mind driving up early in the morning. You can also do Limerick to Ballina return in a day

How about Mallow to Ballybrophy to Limerick via Nenagh and back to Mallow via the Junction

Here's a monster trip for you and not for the faint hearted or those who weak bladders or a dislike for Spar deli foodstuffs.

Start off with the 05:35 Rosslare Europort to Dundalk; this commuter beast trip arrives in at about 10:09. From here, get the 10:30 Enterprise which gets into Belfast for 11:47. Once here, grab an quick bit of grub and pick up the 12:18 to Portrush arriving in at 13:55 and a very swift pit stop.

The return trip goes out at 14:05 and hits Central for 15:39, in time for the 16:05 back to Connolly. This arrives in at 18:15, giving you plenty of time to toddle over to platform 5 for the 18:35 departure to Rosslare Europort. All in all, 6 trips and all over some of the most scenic lines in Europe.

It's also possible to do the following now in one day:
    Dublin - Limerick Junction - Waterford - Kildare - Portarlington - Athenry - Limerick - Limerick Junction - Dublin

A long day out but feasible!

Yup, but not a lot of time to hang around. Didn't have time to take in the Folk Park, this was about 12 years ago tho.
I remember getting a ticket sold to me on the train, was too early for the ticket office and it was MkII and pre-RPU Gestapo days.

I've been looking through the site, it's impossible to do Dublin-Waterford-Limerick-Galway or vice versa. I reckon that'd be a trip to be seen.
