Days off / rest days

Hiya, quick question which isn't hugely important!

I'm working in retail, full time. The hours are spread over 7 days, though. As it stands, it looks like I may be working 3 weeks without a day off.

Do I have any entitlements to any days off? I don't mind working it too much, but I'm pretty sure I'll be a bit burned out after 3 weeks with no day off!

    Cheers :)

Sounds illegal to be honest but depends on the exact hours; 24h rest period per 7 days works is the minimum according to Citizeninformation.
The definition of a rest period is any time that is not working time. The rest periods set out in the Act are as follows:

    (a) You are entitled to 11 consecutive hours rest in any period of 24 hours. In addition you should get 24 consecutive hours rest in any period of 7 days and this should normally follow on from one of the 11-hour rest periods already mentioned, or

    (b) As an alternative your employer can give you two 24-hour rest periods in the week that follows one in which you did not get the entitlement described in (a) above.

Thanks for that. I never get a 24 hour rest period, but at least I know my rights now. I'll probably do the three weeks, but demand a rota change after that, don't want to rock the boat as it's a new job. Thanks again. :)

When you say full time, do you mean you are working less than 8 hours per day? Or is it 4x6 hour days and 2x7 hr days?

It is still not right but if it was a full week then 2 days overtime atleast you have your overtime payment. If its 3 weeks of short days, yo still only come out with a flat week and no days off.

Watch out when it comes to St Patricks day etc. Start asking what the payment is for working a bank holiday, if you are off you should get one fifth of a weeks pay and the day off. (you may not be in the business to get this for St Patricks Day)

Are you 56 hours a week for three weeks? Are you getting paid for all of this?
