does anyone have a good photo of one of the "AXE TAX" stickers you used to see in the back windows of cars from the early '80s onwards? I've googled and searched here to no avail :(

thanks to Manta Mad's photo above, I was able to redraw the sticker and have it printed off on proper self-adhesive vinyl.

    It'll be a nice finishing touch on my sh1tty 1982 Golf. :)

    nice work :)

can you reproduce any sticker ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

well, given a good sample I could redraw any sticker digitally and then my buddies in the printing business could run them off on vinyl. It is time consuming though...

excuse the dodgy mobile pic (well, it looks like it might have been taken mid '80s ;) )

That's not the one I remember.
My recollection is of a sticker with a yellow background, more the shape of a car dealer sticker (not as tall as a number plate) and it had a ball and chain logo on it and I think it might have also had the subtitle "enough is enough".
Maybe it said "Axe the tax" rather than just "Axe Tax".

This would have been from the late 70's or very early 80s. Does it sound familiar to anyone? I can't be certain though that my memory is not playing tricks with me. :o

Yes, the graphic was a saloon car (Opel Rekord or similar) with a ball & chain, with the chain wrapped around the middle of the car, and the text was "Enough is enough - this car is weighed down with tax".

That one came after the original Axe the Tax one shown above (the "the" in the middle was indeed much smaller, as shown, so it read AXE TAX from a distance.

Any chance of these popping up on ebay. It makes a nice period addition to an old car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

I won't be selling them on ebay but the company who printed them for me might do a run and sell them individually. I'll sound them out and see if they're interested. I'll let you know ho I get on...

That's brilliant - thanks for such a detailed description!
I haven't been able to find a picture of this sticker online yet though.

Funny to be nostalgic about something like this, but just shows that some things never change.
